terrebonne, or
hey guys, i was just browsing local ad for a rifle and saw an armalite ar30 338 lapua mag. here is the actual ad. my question is, has anyone fired one of these? or own one? and do you think its worth the cost? this will be my first actual decent rifle and im really wanting to try a big boomer out. thanks again guys

For Sale an Armalite AR-30 in .338 Lapua Magnum. It has 87 rounds down the barrel. I have a handload worked up where I shot a .681" three shot group at 208 yards. I have not had the time to finalize the load developement to verify if it is repeatable, but I do have the target for what that is worth.
The muzzle brake is very effective, but LOUD, and I can shoot it with a t-shirt and it feels like a push about like a .243.

I am asking $1500 for the rifle and Harris Bi-pod. It comes with a 5 shot removable magazine.
The scope, a Night Force BR 8-32x56, is not included. I can sell it for an additional $975.

Re: 1500.00 338lm?????

I have shot one and they shoot decent enough and the brake is loud and effective. Not a big fan of the stock either and I don't beloeve anyone makes a replacement. Barrel contour is a little thin as well.

That said, I would say think long and hard before getting into a 338 Lapua. Not a cheap rifle to shoot. Factory ammo is expensive, $60+ a box of 20, and even loading it isn't cheap. You might be better off with something a little smaller for your first decent rifle.

That is good advice.

Rob01 advice is very good. I would also invite you to take a look at the 1000+section. There are lots of discussion on these issues.

Re: 1500.00 338lm?????

I agree with both Rob01 and DesertHK. I've owned 4 different 338LM systems, including an AR30. I would strongly recommend something along the lines of a 308. 338LM, isn't the caliber you want in "your first decent rifle".

Re: 1500.00 338lm?????

just my 2 cents but the b.c of the 300 gr smk can make up for alot of inexperience or lack of trigger time but to confess i am biass
