Can you please elaborate on load (powder, braas, charge weight), also what kind of chrono do you have, those are impressive numbers for a short barrel, let alone a gas gun short barrel.

155 scenar
45.8 grains of RE15
LC brass
CCI BR2 primers

Slight crimp

All brass trimmed to spec

Load shoots 3/4" MOA average at 100 yds. (per GAP's guarantee)

FL sized with Forester die

Loaded on Forester Coax

I do not know the make of chrony it belongs to a friend.

*Average takes over 10 shots

Re: 155 VLD/Scenar loads for 18" barreled gun?

Im curious as well. What is the barrel twist rate? Would the 155's be able to take a faster powder due to a shorter barrel and/or lighter round? Would this set up work better with rl-19?

I am a fairly lazy re-loader as I tend to use 1 of three powders for all my workups.

RE15 is my go to for most loads as I do not normally see the velocity shifts that most speak of due to outside temperatures.

In fact, I plan to use this powder for a 6.5 x 47 Lapua I am having built by Robert Gradous currently.

Re: 155 VLD/Scenar loads for 18" barreled gun?

Im starting reloading and im curious as to what people are using for shorter set ups because im building a 20" barreled m700 in .308 and a 26" barreled savage thats a 6x. Both probably couldnt be much more different

Re: 155 VLD/Scenar loads for 18" barreled gun?

16" 8-twist barrel for DTA SRS Covert; CorBon (factory) 155 Scenars:

Avg. muzzle velocity (2 x 10-shot strings) = 2799 fps
Avg. precision ( 4 x 5-shot groups) at 100 yd was 0.9 MOA.

Edit: numbers were for stock 16" barrel, not the 18"

Re: 155 VLD/Scenar loads for 18" barreled gun?

I have about 6 diffrent loads using the 155 Berger VLD coming to me from Andrew at McCourt Munitions so I'll post my findings next week hopefully.

Re: 155 VLD/Scenar loads for 18" barreled gun?

Mine are run in a 16.5" POF
Berger 155 VLD
44.5gr Varget
2550 or so IIRcorrectly
1:10 twist

More room for velocity but this load was the most accurate in my gun.

Re: 155 VLD/Scenar loads for 18" barreled gun?

Thanks for the replies but after shooting in some windy conditions and I'm here to tell anyone that doesn't beleive it...heavy is the name of the game if you want to buck the wind!

Going to find me some heavier loads using the 178 bthp's and just run them as fast/accuratley as I can.
