16-18 inch shorty rifles

After switching stocks and barrels a few times I think I finally found the sweet spot.

Are those handloads? Seems quite a bit slower than it should be. Have an 18" ATX barrel and with mild handloads and 140ELDs it's getting 2650fps.

Sweet looking rig. That might stalker from manners will be sweet.
Yes they are handloads. With 41.8 grains IMR4350 I was able to get 2497 using 140 eldm out of virgin Lapua brass. With 41.3 grains IMR 4451 same bullets and brass was getting 2457. I have some H4350 loaded up but have not shot them yet. Hoping to get to them tomorrow. I do not expect those to be that much better if at all. I have never seen velocities that high in either of my 6.5’s. My CTR with 24 inch barrel is barely faster.

Well I had my first child and decided to shrink a stable of rifles (and associated reloading equipment) down to one “do-all” centerfire rifle in a factory caliber. I figured I wouldn’t be shooting as much and I could use the cash, pretty happy with how this project turned out.

After reading about the XM3 (and how much the Marines who used them loved the tradeoffs made on that rifle), I wanted something XM3-ish, but with technological upgrades from the last 15 years or so of rifle development.

A1-3 Marsh camo
CDG Left hand
Bartlein 18” carbon M40
TT diamond
M5 bottom metal / AW mags
LRI EFR mount
Sandman L
Kahles K624i

So far so good - she’s only about 60 rounds in and I’m hoping the barrel speeds up. Best 600 yd group was with FGMM Berger 130 - pretty good SD/ES, but only about 2650 fps.

Not as good of a bench gun / stock as the A5, but man she feels great offhand.

Ordered Jul 31 23, shipped Dec 26 (Santa’s elves were on it this year).

It all worked out - the lead times were similar for the barrel and stock so it all kind of arrived at once after 5 months of waiting. The delayed gratification makes it sweeter, I swear.

Not sure if this counts, but the total length with the can is 16"

9" barrel + 7" suppressor. 300Blk goodness. Unfortunately the crown needs to be recut by the smith, it's a little rough. Super quiet with N110.

Managed to get a little bit of Arca under the dual strike chassis.

-Chopped 17” 7.5 twist PVA Osprey 6.5 Creedmoor Prefit M24 Contour
-Origin Action
-Steiner T6XI 3-18x56mm
-KRG Bravo
-Triggertech Primary

Just threw it together. Weighs around 14lbs as you see it, but it’s super handy and balances well. Easy on the shoulder but I still need to shoot it past 25m to see how it actually groups. Loving the Origin action so far. In some ways I actually prefer it over my Terminus. We’ll see how this barrel does as I don’t know anyone who shoots one, but the price was right and it was in stock.

That should shoot amazing. The PVA Osprey barrels are fantastic.

Just messing around with an Impact MTU 18” 223 combo in the HNT26 while I’m waiting for the 20” Bartlein CF 6.5x47 barrel for my Bighorn to arrive. It’s “heavy” at around 13.5 lbs but the CF barrel and lighter TL3 should bring it down closer to 10 lbs, which was my goal for a crossover rifle.

Be picking up my Tikka that's got a new 16" barrel on it, along with a CTR bravo to go with it. Wish Canada wasn't so against suppressors

I've got a Zeus QC with a 300 WM barrel lying around I don't really use, has anyone done an 18" to 20" 300 WM?

Thinking I would get around 3200 fps with a 155 ELD M, but open to other ideas. I like the 22" carbon 6 CM barrel I have but the 16" 308 barrel on this rig just feels right

ETA: I could cut down a 6.5 CM barrel to 18" but I kinda like the longer barrel because I get to have the same barrel length / weight as my 300 NM barrel but shoot $1 bills instead of $4

I have a 21” 300wm. I don’t recall exactly but 150gr Barnes TSX was speedy. 220 Berger’s were going 2867fps with 74.5 gr of RL26 though.
