16-18 inch shorty rifles

Walmart 700 dropped in a wood ADL stock without bedding. Factory trigger. Chopped from 24-16.5, lost 200 fps on factory Hornady 55 SP ammo. Lost about 3" or so at 300 yards. Still shoots good. Pic of 300 yard group yesterday.

17inch custom cut barrel on a Bergara BMP 6.5 Creedmoor. Getting 2563 fps from Hornady Police Tap 147 Grn Ammo. Shot out to 1000 this week. Love the shorter barrel vs the 24 incher that came on it, especially in urban hide settings. Wilson Combat Quell can is amazing!

Very nice set up you have here, must be pretty light weight with the Mark 5.
Is the rifle ass heavy in this setup? Most guys running a AI this short are doing so to run a suppressor.
No longer have this, but yes, it was lighter than its original config. Still pretty heavy overall vs my current Origin shorty on a W3 chassis. I ran a TBAC U7 with it.

16.5" 6.5 PRC Tikka T3, LRHS2, CTR bm and mags. Right under 9 lbs without the can and bipod. Comes to 22" with the can on.
Nice and short hunting stick for hogs, whitetail, yote and possibly black bear. Waiting on dies and V3, but hoping to send 124gr Hammer or 130 AB around 2,750-2,800 ish.

Edit: Updated picture with Vortex LHT 4.5-22x50, painted and engraved the barrel and bottom metal, right at 8lbs 8.4oz. Got to shoot it today with new V3. 124gr Hammer Hunter solids and 56.4gr H4831 2,762" with no pressure signs so will try higher. 3,017" w/Superformance, but started getting heavier bolt lift so back down to 2,880 range (tested at 93deg F). H1000 was as expected painfully slow with compressed charge of 59.5gr at 2,689"

The AT does seem like a heavy beast compared to everything else.
Hoping to pick up my first AI soon and hoping to set up a short 308 like you've done, if nothing else looks bloody awesome!

What barrel did you go with?

Tikka 8 twist 223.

Chopped and fluted by LRI.
Atacr in M10s on a 419 rail.
Turbo K til the ultra 7 is free.
Mathews riser keeps the blinker in line.
Tikka vertical grip.
Mountain tactical billet mags for extra coal.
Sterk shifter.
Needs a bipod.

Shoots 75 ELDMs at 2850.

That break looks killer AF. Share some more about that rifle. What's it chambered in? What break is that? What's its built for?

Looks really nice!
Thank you, So this is chambered in 300 wsm, its my hunting rifle, nice and lightweight and compact, folds up and fits in a bag. And being able to push a 180gr bullet 3000 fps it will kill anything in North America.
The muzzle brake is by Salmon River Solutions I actually have two of them, I am testing to see which one I like better this week. The other one I have is smaller in diamter and is their Ti pro 2 which is timed to my barrel. https://www.salmonriversolutions.com/
The one you see in the picture I originally posted is their Ti pro 3 which is self timing. Both are titanium and super light
I want to test to see if you get any more recoil reduction and muzzle rise reduction from going with a bigger break with more ports.
Being a Short barreled with a short Mag cartidge everyone told me It would be crazy and super loud etc, But its just as loud as any of my other rifles with a break and the recoil as it with the tipro two is not bad at all like what so ever, I would like less muzzle rise so I can see impacts better which is why I am trying the ti pro 3 (Which I won, otherwise I would have been totally happy with the tipro2.)
Below is the rifle installed with the ti pro 2.

With the folder too! That's a compact package when its all folded up I bet.
It is fairly light and really compact when folded up. I can't wait to break it in and do some load development for it. Butbit will be a little while as I am working on training with my 6GT for my first PRS match in a few weeks.

What powder will us use to achieve that velocity?
So far H4831 @ 2,762 and will try higher. Superformace @ 3,017 starting to get heavy bolt lift so I'll back it down to 2,889 or so. Looks like the 124gr Hammer Hunter is about 94" or so faster with same powder charge as Nosler 123 CC

You could have gone with more traditional camo colors, like OD green, coyote tan, FDE, and sage green. But your choice to go with what you did was great. The rifle looks fucking awesome with those colors I think haha.

**ETA**

Looking back at it, it looks like you did use the typical colors (maybe) but it looks different than others and it looks good.

Yeah, there’s OD and a lighter green, then grey and brown called chestnut I think. I think it’s pretty sick too.

Sad part is I have not even shot it yet. I have been way to focused on my 6GT, and my first PRS match.
Haha. Funny how that works. I have a 6.5 Howa 1500 Compact Creedmoor with a 16” barrel that I put in a KRG Bravo stock. Still waiting on glass to finish it out, but I did put an optic on it to get a few rounds down range and it’s looking promising.

Frank,
I haven’t had a chance to run anything through a chrony yet. My Lapua brass just came in and gonna start working on a load for a bunch of Berger 130 VLD Hunting bullets I have.
