I shoot a Remington LTR .308 and need a M/V for the ballistics software im going to try out. I do not have a chrono so someone elses results will get me closer than me guessing. I shoot 168 Grain. Hornadys TAP and BTHP. Any insight would be great.
Re: 168 Gr. Muzzle Velocity out of Remington LTR .308
I am getting (+-)2680fps out of my XCR Compact Tactical, which sports the same 20" barrel as the LTR, shooting 168gr Hornady Match BTHPs. But I'd still do your own chrono first chance you get.
Re: 168 Gr. Muzzle Velocity out of Remington LTR .308
Yeah as soon as I get one I will. I used a guys at my local range and his read 2730 fps but I really dont beleive it. He said he bought his brand new for 100 dollars so im guessing it is a low end chrono which probally isnt as accurate as others. I dont know to much about them, but the Hornady box states the .308 168 HPBT M/V is 2700, and most likly that is with a longer barrel.
Re: 168 Gr. Muzzle Velocity out of Remington LTR .308
That would almost certainly be from a 24" or longer barrel. The general rule of thumb is that you lose from 15-25 fps per inch. The hottest load I have that shoots well out of my LTR is a 165 gr. Accubond using 45.5 gr. of Varget in Lapua brass w/CCI BR2 primers. It chronos @ 2655.
Re: 168 Gr. Muzzle Velocity out of Remington LTR .308
I shoot alot, I really dont need the software its more of a want. I just got the gun not to long back and Ive got it doped out to only 400 yds so far. The gun shoots great. I live in MO and its kind of hard to find a spot to shoot any farther. I know some farmers who have alot of open land but the only time I would be able to shoot it is when his crops are cut. Im trying to get signed up for this FBI marksmen training class that is free for LEO and military, but the agent I called has not called back yet to let me know anything. The class is supposed to be held somewhere in southern MO.
