Other than 5 grains. How different are the two SMK bullits? Are they close enough out to say 600 yds that dope shouldn't vary much? I hardly ever shoot my .308 any more but I keep ammo ready if I need it as well as drop charts and such. I just bought several 168 AMAX's, 178 AMAX's and alot of 175 SMK's. I have had several boxes allready of 175 and 180 Smks to decide what .308 projectile my rifle prefers. I want the 175 Smk to be the best because of availibilty but whichever pill works the best is what she will shoot. I don't plan on just swapping up if thats what yall are thinking. Just wanting to know if any one here have tried BOTH of these pills. Thanks guys

Thanks Graham, I don't shoot my .308 past 600 very often if it even comes out of the house. I didn't think there would be much difference but wasn't sure. Seems to be ALOT of diff between the 168 and 175 SMK though. And that is only 7 grns. Its crazy how some bullits doesn't hang with the others even if pretty close is weight. Thanks buddy

There's not a lot of difference at 600 and under between the 168SMK and the 175SMK either.

If you are shooting at short range look for 168 FGMM and be happy with the discounted price.

The 168 begins to fall behind at 700 and is seriously limited at 800+ due to the design of its boat-tail.

It is not so much the weight that gives the 175 an edge over the 168s. The ogive is set back further on the 175s. Makes it more streamlined.

    Re: 175 vs 180

I just go with 175's and 155's. They have a proven track record and the people that have shot them head to head seem to say bla to the 168's so I never bothered just stick with the trusted in my rifle and I'm very happy with them.

    Re: 175 vs 180

Yeh you would be hard pressed to beat a 155 or 175 in a .308win.

Some of the 155's available are rediculously long in size for their weight which gives them a fantastic BC.

In regards to an all important G7 BC, the 180 only has an 0.004 advantage over the 175smk. What the 175smk makes up in slight speed over the 180 will probably level them out I would say.

I would say if the 175 is readily available to you, stick with it as its a great little bullet.

    Re: 175 vs 180

I presume you are talking about Sierra MK 175 and 180's. There is a current 180 and there are the "old" 180's, which aren't made anymore. The difference between the old and new 180s are the design of the boattail, the old had a much long BT, like the 190smk while the new is short like the 168s. The old 180s are a better LR bullet than the new, and the 175 have pretty much taken over the 168/180 smk.
