I don'[t know if this is the place to ask this, but i've heard lately manufacturers are pulling their semi auto pistols and rifles inj .17hmr. Has anyone else any experience with this? I'm lusting for an Accelerator pistol.

17 HMR has shown to be unsuitable for semi-auto use. Something about not sufficient blowback or something.

Bottom line. If it's a semi-auto, don't use 17 hmr in it.

Remington 597....Volquartsen Custom Cheetah and rifles....Excel Arms Excellerator pistol and rifle....just to name a few. but to answer the OP's question, i have a Volquartsen Superlight rifle and have never had problems feeding or functioning any kind of 17 HMR ammo...for that matter i never had any problem with my Remington 597 before that.

Re: .17hmr semi auto

Even .22WMR is right on the ragged edge of what can be done with a pure blowback action. HMR exceeds what's safe. Blown cases from early opening, and slam fires out of battery from stick feeding in less-than-spotless chambers.
Use one and you're in the wilderness. Injuries on your tab since tha ammo mfg says it's not safe nor intended for such use.

Re: .17hmr semi auto

also, I went to the Hornady site,(http://www.hornady.com/in-the-news/latest-news/17-hmr-notice) and they're saying their ammo won't cause anything adverse, throwing it back at the manufacturers of the guns shooting them. my original question was were there any folks out there who'd had bad experiences with .17hmr (which i own a savage tack-driving .17hmr I really enjoy shooting. I know marlin was offering a semi auto back then too, but they were having problems with the mags.

A guy blew out his Remington 597 17 HMR at my gun club 3 or so weeks ago. He had to go home immediately to change his drawers. Was thinking MAYBE to bit teh bullet and get a Volquartsen. Not after that.

Re: .17hmr semi auto

Call me a fool! I bought one of those "drop in barrels" for a .17hmr a long time ago before any of this blow back stuff came up. The barrel company's ad said that you could put this barrel on a Ruger 10/22 mag and have an semi auto .17hmr. One shot is all it took to blow the back of the case off, send part of the twisted case down into the magazine and ruin it and I was DONE!
Scared the crap out of me. I am sure someone has figured it out by now. I learned my lesson!!!
