I'm having some accuracy issues. I can normally shoot the Sierra Match Kings well under 1", but I put an adjustable gas block on and then started to shoot the tipped ammo and the bullets are all over the place. I only had 3 non tipped MKs and they shot .75" or better. Then I shot some 55 grain bulk ammo that were lead tipped boat tails and were easily shooting .5-.75 moa.! Has anyone else had this experience where the original BTHP MKs shot better than tipped?

My experience is that you see the advantage of the 62, 69 and 77 grain 5.56 ammo at longer ranges. True, at 1/7 and 18", your barrel should be screaming for that ammo. at 100 yrds, anything can happen. Then, there is the adage that a barrel and a receiver will "like" a specific bullet, and all convention goes to the wind.

Can't say that I know if it's better or not but my 18" absolutely adores 75gr Hornady BTHP. A lot of guys I shot with today agree on getting good results with them so much so that it's not really worth paying extra.
I can't get 69 TMK's to shoot for the life of me. I've tried about everything up to and including moly coating them. I gave up and am going back to 77SMK's.
Shot like shit for me. Shot great in a buddies rifle. Barrels like different bullets, you have to find what YOUR barrel likes.
I just couldn't believe that they would shoot so badly. I'm talking worse than any carbine I've shot. Over 2 moa. Then I shoot the original BTHP SMKs both 69-77 and they are less than .75 moa. So I'm glad I didn't get several boxes of the tipped Ammo! I just changed over to a Odin Works adjustable lo pro gas block and JP bolt shooting a suppressor. I thought that could have been the problem until I ran a 20 round mag of some 55 gr BTSP bulk Ammo and it was well under 1 moa! I just expected the tipped to shoot as well as the original open tipped bullets. Guess I was wrong!
The tipped matchkings are more jump sensitive. Depending on your chamber, it may not handle them well at mag length.
I have found this to be true in several different calibers. Also if you ogives between the two you will notice you would have to load longer to get the same amount of jump and being semi auto this is a major issue I have found with the TMK b
