Can anyone give me the advantages and disadvantages on these bullets for use in 308. Shooting steel out to 1000 yards?

How about we examine 3 bullets, and you decide....
First up: Sierra 180 gr SMK @ 2675 FPS using G7 BC calc's
1000 YDS Drop -10.4 Mils -35.8 MOA Drift 2.6 Mils 9.1 MOA
Next, a bullet you did not ask about, but should consider. Berger 185 Gr LRBT. This is a non-VLD bullet, so seating depth not a finicky as VLD's and @ 2625 FPS using G7 Calc's.
1000 Yds Drop -9.8 Mils -33.8 MOA Drift 2.2 Mils 7.6 MOA
Last the Berger 190 gr VLD @ 2575 FPS
1000 Yds Drop -10.2 Mils -35.1 MOA Drift 2.2 Mils 7.6 MOA
The only advantages that accrue to the Sierra 180 SMK is cost, compared to either of the two Bergers.

Thanks Bob... good info!! 190 vld's @ 2575? What powder and load are you running? I really like Varget.. I have had very good luck with this powder.

180 GR. SPR SP IMR 4895 .308" 2.800" 40.5 2439 FPS 43,800 PSI 44.7C 2674 FPS 58,700 PSI
The 185 Grain Load was from my own data. Lapua case, Fed 210 M Primer, 44 grains Varget, 2.860" COAL, 2625 FPS avg.

I think I will give the 185 target long range a go! You mentioned something about the VLD's being picky with seating? Due to the sharp secant I gather? I push them with varget proberly starting around 40 grns working up... I would like to see 2600 fps! I would be happy!
