I've been trying to work up a load for the 185 juggernaut target(not otm tactical) bullets for a 700 remage with a CBI 26" 1-10 barrel. My current best load is 42.5gr 8208 xbr at 2.830(~.120 jump) at ~2730fps, but its only about .75-1" 100yds at best. Have also tried varget and h4895. With varget 43.6 @2.830 was best, and with h4895 42.1 @2.830. Both are right around 2710 and about 1". I've tried the 8208 load at .020(2.950) jump and it was basically the same as the .120 jump. With varget I get a stiff bolt at 44.3gr and with 42.8gr of 8208 xbr I get some definite ejector swipe. These are all with lapua lrp brass, started with new brass and now up to about 5-6 firings on it and needs annealed badly. ES/SD have been consistently in the teens-low 20s for ES and 6-10 for SD, all done with a labradar. Any other suggestions for things to try? I also have some 208 eld m and 178 eld m also to work up.

Honestly I think I either got a bad barrel or its something that I'm doing that I don't realize. Been really trying to focus on my shooting technique though. From what I've heard CBI barrels are lasers.

I use the Juggernauts with 43.4 grains of Varget and get decent accuracy. I am seeing around 2670 out of a 26" barrel. It might be worthwhile playing with your jump some more.

With 40.5 grains of IMR 4064 my MilSpec 5r Remington makes me look like I actually know what I'm doing. That gun has a super long throat, so chasing the lands isn't practical or possible. Ragged hole at 100 and I've used them to 1,000 yds.

Is everyone using the juggernaut targets or the juggernaut otm tactical? Seems federal uses the otm tactical in their gold medal berger line based off the given bc of .552.

I haven’t used the juggernauts but have used the 185gr Classic Hunters which are very close. 44gr Varget gave the group shown below from my 24” Criterion. Didn’t chrono it but it trued out in Ballistic AE at 2662.

What was the OAL? Any idea how much jump?

One of my favorite loads is 44 grains Varget in Lapua brass 185 Juggers @ 2.845. Holds .5 moa out to 1k prone. I have ran that same setup up to 45.5 Varget but the powder needs to be vibrated down.

43.3 grains Varget in Lapua brass Hornady 178 ELD-X @ 2.850 showed promise today. 10 rounds in the cold, windy, w light snow stayed in a .5 group @ 100. I'm going to load a bunch up and take that load out to 1k in the next month. Pm for velocity as your results may vary lol

I shot some more loads today, the 42.5gr load of 8208 was .75 moa and 2750 at 2.830. So far that is my best most consistant load.

Also loaded some more with 43.6gr of varget at 2.830, 2.960(.010 jump), and 2.965(.005 jump), there really wasn't a difference in velocity or group size between any of those, all were right around 2700 and 1 moa.

Also loaded 3 rounds each at 44.0, 44.5, and 45.0 and 1 round a 45.5. All seated a 2.830. The 3 shot group of 44.0 was .5 moa, and got slightly bigger as I went, but 45.0 had an ES of 4.2. Did not see any pressure signs at all today, even at 45.5. No ejector swipe or marks, and no stiff bolt lift. The 1 shot at 45.5 was a dead even 2800fps.

I loaded 5 more at 44.0, 44.3 and 45.5, also loaded 43.6, 44.0 and 44.3 with federal 210 primers, just to see if there is a noticeable difference between them and the cci br-2s I've been using.

I think I'm finally narrowing it down and the barrel seems to be settling in now, no idea what the round count currently is, but has to be getting close to 500rds now.

185 Juggers w 45.5 Varget was 2750 fps out of 22 inch w magneto speed. No signs of pressure but i don't think i can get anymore powder in the case. Had to vibrate the powder down and was a HEAVY compressed load.

FYI the Juggernaut Target and OTM are the same bullet just different packaging. I believe if you go to Bergers site under questions it’s explained!!

I’ve got the same rifle with a couple boxes of jugs to test out. What length did you settle on loading them at? Like yours, of course mine also has a super long throat. Do you know what kind of velocity your getting at 40.5 varget?

@tnbowhunter ; I can't remember ever using a chrono on this load, sorry, but I'm using Imr 4064, not varget. That gun and a Ruger I have are long throats: for both of them I just look at book oal, and then find a base to ogive length in that neighborhood. Theres lots of wiggle room to work with.
