Do you guys think it would be a waste to shoot 195g eldm bullets out of a 20" barrel 1:11 at 6-700yards or beyond? I know its a little heavy but I've read of guys shooting these and heavier bullets and getting good results. For me this is just for recreational target shooting.

If not what kind of powders would suggest and what kind of velocities are needed to get out there?

Thank you

It may not stabilize with a 1-11 twist well. But buy a box and find out.

If it is for recreational target shooting it's hard to say anything is a "waste".

If it doesn't work out, sell the remaining bullets to the others you see at the range using them.
In terms of the powder, heck I'd ask the guys at your range that are loading these with good results.

I already have some set up. I decided to go with PowerPro 2000. I end up buying the last bottle lol. I'll attach my little bit of information I got. I think i might be gtg. I started at 44.0 and went a to 44.6 i believe but ill check for pressure when I get out there. My range is only 600y anyway. At 1000 its still supersonic and per Berger calculations it's stable. I wanted to make a load that will be good all around

When A barrel is only 20 inches long, it’s not very effective at burning a slow burning powder, which is needed for the heavy bullets. One of the results of this combination of a short barrel, heavyweight bullet, slow burning powder is recoi. Another is muzzle blast from all that Slow unburnied powder. The longer a barrel is the more Time the Bullet can gain velocity In the rifling from the powder, which will aid in accuracy

Did you check out my attachments below? I know I can move the bullet at least 2500 fps. Berger calculations says it will be stable on the high end. If i can get it to 2500 fps at least it'll still be supersonic at a 1000k. i Might go today because im dying to see if it'll work.

Edik310 have you calculated the velocity lost from a 24 inch barrel down to a 20 inch barrel ? because that Hornady data is based on a 24 inch barrel

I can take the velocities all the way down to 2300 fps and the bullet per will still be super sonic and stable at 1000y. My range is only 600 I'm just saying. The stability actually went went when I put in a slower fps. Ill attach the info

My fault I forgot to adjust the length of the bullet so it's pretty much the same 1.49 SG here's the info
