The subject Remington 700 BDL in 243 was the very first center fire rifle I aquired. I believe it was ~ 1968/69 and I was about 16 years old.

Anyway the attached target was shot yesterday at 200 yards with factory remington 100 gr core-lokt PSP ammo.
As you can see the the first three cold bore rounds were fired very tight - into about 1/2 inch. Subsequent rounds started to string vertically and I think this was due to the bore heating up.

Can anyone provide any additional comments to explain this behavior?

Thank You,

Al

Inconsistent pressure on stock (not floated)
Inconsistent trigger pull
Inconsistent parallax/cheekweld
Loose rings/mount
Low quality/inconsistent ammo

Lots of reasons for speculation from my armchair here.
