I have a non-prefix 700VS (sitting here at my work PC I cant remember if it is a 6 digit or 7 digit number) that barrel dates to 1974. Is there any value to it beyond what it is, or is it worth something for building a clone?

I'd like to know too I have a 1967 long action 308 R700 , 6 digit.i had it trued and rebarreled with a krieger barrel.Its a shooter for sure.

I have a couple 6/7 receivers. I like them for the smoothness and the nostalgia. From what I understand, the 6-digit receivers are in demand for the M40 clones. If building a clone is not your thing, shoot it as is or have it rebarreled. My unmolested 6 is going to have a Douglas 6mm 1/9 tube screwed on, chambered in .243 and will be bedded in a McMillan M40 in forest camo with wichita swivels. Pretty classy, i think.
Do what you want and enjoy the rifle. The action is not going to let you retire early- the price's just aren't that high.

Thanks for the info. The rifle is a .222 Rem. right now and it's one of my favorite shooters, and pretty much a one hole gun.

The Triple Deuce. You have a classsic. Read where when Remington came out with the 782 in .222, a lot of people shot their first .5" groups. That rifle you have is a classic.
Yeah the .222 ruled the BR circuit until the PPC's came along. Unfortunately a lot of folks took it to a different level. I have a pre-64 Mod 70 in 22 hornet, but someone had it rechambered to .222. It shoots good but you can't push them very fast because the pre-64 has a true Hornet bore. Ruined a valuable gun though.
