Hi, my friend's son is awesome.

He's been coming to the range with us and really enjoying the sport. I have an old CZ .22lr rifle i just cleaned up and bedded. It has an 11mm rail so i purchased some 1 inch rings for it.

Now i've got to find a decent scope. I'd sure like to keep cost below $250 if possible? Ideally something that would mimic what we're doing...dialing turrets etc.

so far i've noticed these options:
Burris FullField E1 6.5020x50
Athlon Talos 6-24x50 ATMR1 IR

Any other options that stand out?

Will likely hold out till Black Friday sales to catch up financially but trying to gain some info in the meanwhile ( just spent a bunch on reloading equipment...good thing i love this sport).

I put an older Nikon Monarch on my .22 rimfire. I have to warn you though, I have had to send Nikon scopes back for repair and recently I read a statement from Nikon that they are going to limit the time frame over which they will repair scopes.

The change in Nikon's warranty duration concerns me as well. It's too bad really i've had good luck with their cameras in the past.

I seem to be reading a lot of conflicting and mixed experiences with regards to the Talos...some love it, some do not. I guess maybe that's to be expected in my budget. I do like the look of the reticle

i don't want to bother gr8fuldoug just yet, he must be swamped with the holiday and honestly i won't be able to purchase for another month...I really need to restore my funds, we're having our roof done tomorrow before the rainy season starts and it's a humdinger.... i absolutely will call once i'm in better straits, really appreciate the support. I'd like to have the rifle ready for him for Christmas break. I bet he'll get a real thrill. His Dad's on board.

Cabelas doesn't seem to carry the Oculus anymore or maybe they're out? I'm a bit reluctant to purchase from eBay, I guess i feel more comfortable purchasing from sponsors or members of the forum.

They discontinued the Oculus brand. Bad move on them. I think mines will last me a while. Go on Natchezss.com they have really good scopes on sale all the time. Look for a burris scope or weaver kaspa that fits your budget

Lots of great 1" tube scopes in your budget if you don't mind buying used. The ones I have expierence with are weaver v16, leupold 3-9x40 rimfire, leupold vx2 6-18, the older m8 and BR fixed power series are very nice and can be had with target dots. I see lots of the above scopes at the local small bore silhouette matches and indoor .22 shoots.

On my 3 silhouette rifles I have a v16 on the hunter class rifle, vx2 6-18x40 on my backup open class rifle and a fixed BR 36x on the open gun I use 90% of the time. If you keep an eye out on Ebay you can find them for real real good deals.
