I just recieved my 1st custom barrel. It is Bartlein 6.5 5r. I have some questions about other markings on the blank end.
1. It appears to be "AA 7225"
2. .256
3. .264
Can you guys tell me what all these mean. I have seen these on the reamers website. Also I was looking lookingat reamers on PTG. Which one do want. Can I rent one? This will be on a .260 with an overall length. Mainly reloads down it. This will go on a Trued 700 all work will be done by me action and barrel. Of course with all your guys help form forums from 300cal, wnroscoe and his site, gretan, and byrant customs site.

Re: 1st new custom barrel

The .256 is the bore size (tops of the lands), .264 is the groove size, AA7225 is the s/n. We serial number all of our barrels. I can tell you what heat lot of steel it came out of, caliber, number of grooves and who even rifled it. Also it should be stamped S.S. this means stainless steel.

Re: 1st new custom barrel

Thanks Frank it is a fantasic looking barrel I cant wait to get it finished. Yes SS is right. Do I need to cut a inch off the ends I have heard this needs to be done right now the ol is 29 inches

Re: 1st new custom barrel

You only need to cut the 1" off the muzzle end. No need to cut any off the breech end because if there is any small defects from lapping or the tools going in and out of the bore the chamber reamer will clean it up. I say you only have to take 1" off the breech end is if it is a .22RF barrel. The RF reamer is to short to clean it up.
