Only thing I can expand beyond our PMs is where 19Scout77 alludes -- 10x is considered the average point where parallax is a huge issue. Based on how good your eyes are, it could be a must have or a nicety. Also, having a super thin reticle like the NP-R2 vs mildot will make you need it more.
Here's a test you can perform with just your scope in hand ... pick a reference target like a stop sign, drive a 1/4 mile (485 yards) and see if you can easily acquire the target. Like I mentioned, 500 yards is about the threshold where the NP-R2 got squirrely for me -- per above, partly cause it's so thin.
If you want to range further, take:
0.3 miles = 582 yds
0.4 miles = 776 yds
0.5 miles = 970 yds
Only other factor is if you ever see yourself shooting beyond 500. I would take a 'maybe' as 'yes'.
