Is there any benifit to a 2 degree taper, i notice most custome builds have a custom ground recoil lug, some including the M40A1 have the 2 degree taper( i think).

dose this improve the the stability and increase accuracy?

yep , haveing a light draft to it allows it to pull out of the bedding more easly.

Personaly if you mask off the front and bottom of the lug like its supposed to be when bedding then it'll come right out anyway.

I think it just a selling gimic

I recieved the lug today, Badger SS chandler m40a1 with a taper,
WOW a work of art over factory. I now under stand. The taper is on the lower portion of the lug were it contacts the stock.
thanks for the help guys. I think ill stick with the taper that is already on the lug and put hat extra $ in to having the bolt lugs lapped or somthing else on the barrel install.
thanks

I think it is a front to back taper, not a top to bottom taper. From what I've heard this acts as a wedge and forces them (stock bedding and lug) together during recoil. This would allow for even less movement than square lugs I believe.

I think when it comes down to the front of the lug it doesnt matter. The sides, bottom and front shouldnt have any contact, while the back side needs to be perfectly flat for complete contact.

On a side note, I put a slight bevel on all forward edges of the factoy lug so there isnt any scraping, and ease of removal from the bedding.
