Ok so I'm about to take delivery of my 1-10 twist 20" 300wm barrel from Criterion and I am curious what powder you guys are running in your short barrel 300's. I load for my other remington 700pss in 300wm but that has a 26" tube. I would like to stick with the 208 amax for bullet but I am not sure if the h1000 will get full potential in the short barrel. I am just curious what everyone is using and what fps they are getting. Thanks in advance.

Honestly not much of anything will get the 300wm's full potential out of a 20" barrel. That being said 4350 is normally considered a bit fast for a 300wm, but certainly do-able, and in this case genuinely worth running over a good chronograph set at about 15-18' from the muzzle. Another good powder is 4831ssc. Given that you already have the H1000, I would certainly give it a try first and see how things work out. Muzzle blast is going to be considerable

I have a 300wsm with a 20" barrel. I shoot the 208 Amax out of it. I tried a few powders. 7828, 4831, RL17(fastest for sure but sensitive), and 4350. I found performance got better the faster the powder got. I settled on 61.5gr IMR4350 because it gave me the most accurate groups with the 208. I'm only pushing it at 2625fps though. You'll be able to do a lot better with the full length mag. I love that bullet but it isn't anywhere near it's full potential in the wsm.

You really need to try Ramshot Magnum or Magpro. I am using them in my 20" 300wm and getting 2815 ft/sec 208 Amax with no pressure signs. It meters like water and very temp stable from my testings.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I will try what I have first and shot it ove my chrony and see what happens. I have h1000, varget, h4350, and retumbo so we will see what happens. Alpha6164 I am curious in the load your shooting since that is exactly where I wanna be with mine. Could you post what powder and charge you are using so I can work up to it and see how mine likes it. If you don't want to post it could you pm it. Thanks again everyone.
