I just bought a Savage MK II TR and ordered a Mueller APT and a 20 moa base (haven't received them yet, in the mail). What is the shortest distance I will be able to shoot? If 50 yards i will be happy.

50 should be just fine I would bet. Depends on the scope really, but again I think would should be covered.
I never had trouble zeroing my savage with nikon buckmaster and 20 min base

There is no reason you can't shoot 25 yards or even 50' except parallax and focus.

have been shooting 25 yards out to 250 with a 25 moa base, high and match velocity ammo, although i'm not running the APV, you still shouldn't have a problem at 50 or even closer.

This wait is killing me. The base and rings will be here tomorrow and the scope on Tuesday.
While waiting for theses items, I have made my own bottom metal. It turned out pretty well.
