I just bought a used Tikka T3x and it looks like there is a base on but I’m not sure if this looks right. Any input is appreciated. There’s a notable lip on the front of the base. Is this correct? Sorry I’m new to long range.

“Looks right”??? No that is very ->“looks wrong”.

Like was said before, new rail time. I run Seekins but not sure they make them for that rifle.

Back that screw out. It’s not a screw to secure the rail/base. It’s used for a mirage shield

I'm genuinely confused haha...this being good or bad is hotly contested...I guess replacing it is a for sure fix regardless of it being good or bad...

Did you back the screw out. Did it flatten out?

It’s a common mistake that people make with the tikka.

When it’s in properly, it looks like a screw that’s backing out and the rail should be flat. I guess if one fooled with it enough, the rail could be bent.

I'm going to assume since it's a factory scope base that this is a CTR? I've heard that some people need a little heat to coax off the factory base. I didn't have trouble with mine, but just an FYI

I took the base off and this is what I’m seeing with my level

At this point, if you have doubts in your mind, then just replace it with a new rail. I had Area419 rails on my Tikkas and liked them

I'm going to replace it, I have an MDT on the way. The front screw when reinstalled doesn't sit flush which I gather is correct. However, there's still a noticeable gap between the action and the base towards the front, which I don't believe is intentional

Tip for the new rail - Loctite on rail screws always!
