Anyone built one? What velocities were you getting, factory ammo or handloads?

I'm wanting a super light mountain rifle which will be suppressed at all times so I want to keep the OAL down.

I just built a 20", but won't be able to get out and chrono it until the end of the month.

There is some good info in this article, but I want to get out and chrono for myself.

Well, it looks like we may be the only ones. Thanks for the link....lots of good info there. I don't really think I'll be giving up that much going from 22" to 20", especially given that I handload.

What velocities were you seeing with the 22 inch barrel? What made you want to switch to 20? I had a hard time picking 22 over 24 but for these short action mag calibers we need that barrel length.

Sorry, I wasn't quite clear. I'm deciding between 22" or 20" and I'd like to keep OAL down as it will be suppressed 100% of the time.

Assuming you have data on your 22", what vel are you seeing?

I've got a 26" 8 tw shilen, 140 and 147 eldms do 3030 comfortably and in the .2s-.3s with h1000. .3-.4 grs more and I'd see slight ejector swipes and lost some accuracy. I really like the prc, so I snagged a 22", longest possible, 6.5prc savage prefit in pva 6.5 labor day barrel sale. Not for sure how soon I actually put it on, shilen barrel is at 150rds so far.

Smith still has the barreled action. Going to be shooting 156 bergers with RL26 and ADG brass. Running a 5 inch suppressor. Hoping for 2900fps. Know a few guys running same pills and RL26 and at 2950 without pressure and no suppressor with 24 inch barrels. So figuring 2900 as a goal with the 156s would be really good out of a 22 with a can.

I bit the bullet on an Impact 6.5 prc with a sendero contour fluted barrel. Dropped it in a Revelation last night and seriously considering breaking out the hacksaw to go to 22” from 26”. It’s destined to be a hunting rig and 22” will be a bit more handy.

In a suppressed 18” Bart 5B I was getting 2890 with 147s over H4350. Had a few blow ups and shitcanned them in the PRC.

Ran a pressure string today with 139 Scenars and looks like they want to run 2945.

Have you tried the 140 Bergers by chance? If I could get 2900fps with a 20” and either the 140 VLD or 143 eld-x I’d be happy.

Odd on the blow ups, lot of guys running them way hotter than that in 7tw and no issues. Is your barrel getting pretty rough in throat?

Has exactly 14 rounds on it, so I doubt it.

Do a Goggle search on it and you’ll find that it’s not an isolated deal by any means.

You have something weird going on. I have about 400 rounds of 147 ELDs out of my 1:8 twist 6.5 PRC, going faster than yours, with zero “blow ups”.

3rd shot zeroing didn’t sound right and I caught a little smoke in the face like a pierced primer. Knew that would be bullshit and when I couldn’t see a 3rd bullet hole in the target the light bulb came on.....

Took suppressor off and watched the next 2 POOF 20-30 yards out of the muzzle.

I got nothing... What twist is your barrel? What free bore was your reamer? Maybe has something to do with the 147 ELDs jamming at normal COLs in lots of PRC chambers?

.130 freebore
Factory Hornady precision hunter with the 143 eldx is jammed roughly .030
(Just using calibers to measure the scratches on the bullet)
Which we knew going into it, I reload so no biggie

I have a xcaliber 22 inch savage prefit and I’m getting 2875 with hornady 147 Eldm and 52.5 grains of h4831sc

Ive used the Berger 140EH in a 22” proof. Getting 2924 with 56 gr RL26 with room to go. Should be doable in a 20”

What gun, and what was the COAL? Starting to work up loads for a Defiance anTi with a 20" Bartlein #4 CF, 8T.

Previously loaded worked up a load of 56.5gr / RL26 @2.830 and ran them thru a Deviant Hunter with a 13# Bartlein S/S, 8T. 3080fps average with 1/2MOA accuracy.

21” barrel on Seekins Havak Element.
Factory 143 eld-x ammo going 2780.

Factory 6.5 PRC Precision hunter ammunition is a crap shoot. Here are two photos I posted last week in another thread showing the powder from two different lots. There was a two grain difference between the two as well. The stick powder is capable of much more velocity.

Havak element 65 prc, 5.5#, throw a GAP jager can on it, and it'll be 25" over all at 6# minus optics. If I needed a light packing gun, it'd be a no brainer.

I might have put this in the Shorty thread...but this is pretty specific
18" 6.5 PRC
Manners EH1
Lone peak fuzion ti action
Atlas on it now (more lightweighty)
triggertech
MDT mag (more better than hawkins)
Hawkins bottom metal
Proof sendero light contour
TBAC Ultra 7
Leupy MK5 3-18
124 Hammer Hunters at 3000 fps (Using 4831 sc)
It's my new favorite hunting gun. Light, but not too light. Good shooting. Can spot hits or misses IF I am squared up firmly behind the gun. I think it is around 8-9lbs with ammo and all decked out. About a lb lighter without bipod, but I always roll with a bipod.
