200+ yards in Middle TN

Re: 200+ yards in Middle TN

I know it might be a good ways to drive but there is 200 at the Norris range and the word is that they are planning on pushing it back. Or you can join Oak Ridge.

Re: 200+ yards in Middle TN

TWRA's Stones River HEC on Hobson Pike between Lu-Vergne and Mt Juliet has two 200-yard lanes, but they're a bit of a PITA because those two lanes run on the same schedule (and are controlled by the same RSOs) as the 18 adjacent lanes at 25-50-100 yards. They do have a golf cart so you can drive out and change or check targets and reasonably be none by the time the guys at the 100-yard lanes are.

Unlike the 25-50-100 yard lanes, you have to buy an annual membership ($105, IIRC) to use the 200-yard lanes, and prove you can hold a 2" group @100 yards.

I much prefer shooting the 400-yard range at Southside (Montgomery County Shooting Complex) but it takes about an hour to drive the 40-odd miles to get there from NW Nashville (I-24 & Briley Pkwy). They have targets on sleds at 200, 300 and 400. They have a separate range for 25-50-100 and more times than not you and the RSO will be the only ones on the 400-yard range, so you can control the range and call it cold whenever the mood strikes. It's only $5.25 per session, no annual membership required. They usually have a golf cart to drive onto the range but last time I was there the cart had a broken wheel and they substituted an Arctic Cat 4-wheeler. Without wheels, it's almost a 1/4 mile walk to check your 400-yard target and I have been there when nothing was available except LPCs.

There's a rumor that AEDC (Tullahoma) and the Army depot at Milan will open their ranges to civilians outside of competitions. AEDC is 1000 yards and Milan is 1100. Other than them, well, let's hope they get Park City (Ky) up and running.

You can't get there from here. Seriously.

But it's in Gibson County, north of Jackson. A little closer to Memphis than BNAshville.
