We hit the road a little late this morning due to rain, hoping in was still dry in our antelope are. As luck would have it, this deer ran out in front of us. I have a big grill guard, but of course he had to do the cartwheel down the side. Looks like I need a new left rear door now.

Made it to the antelope area and it was high and dry. Found this buck sleeping around 10:00. Closed the distance to 490 yards. Dialed in the scope, pressed the trigger, down he went. He was angled a little, bullet hit lung on one side and through the liver on it's way out. Kids had a blast and thats what matters the most. He is about 15" tall, but pretty thin and bad cutters. Shot him with a 308 XCR Tactical, 168 Amax.

Thanks, man. It's a great hunt for the kids. Not a lot of walking. They are only 6 and 3, so they are still pretty limited. They take turns each year picking one out.

Thanks for the kind words, my friends. There are a ton of antelope around Gillette. The problem is most of everything is private. This goat came from area 73 north and west of Casper. It's a huge area and is open Sept.15 until the end of Oct. We didn't really see many antelope in the part of the area we were in. I just knew with the season open so long I'd have a chance to take the kids out a few times.

I can somewhat relate. I sat in the stand all day one day, saw nothing, got in the truck to head home, and sure enough a pretty decent size deer runs out in front of me.

Stinks about your truck, but I've been there.
