The 2011 5th Annual NorCal TBRC is now in the books. We had 66 competitors battle over 2 days in roughly a 200 round count course of fire.

I would like to thank all the competitors that traveled from near and far to make this year’s match. It’s an honor having everyone with us this past weekend, and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we did putting on this event. Our range crew truly appreciates everyone being safe, with no major safety issues needing to be addressed.

I believe our prize table spoke for itself, and all I can say is thank you to the generous sponsors we had support this year’s NorCal TBRC. After some last minute shipments, I believed the prize table was in the arena of $55,000.00 +.

Our sponsors put enough out there for all the competitors and range crew to go through twice, and then some. Everyone walked away with something nice no matter where they finished. Due to a few sponsors jumping on board last minute, I will have to post the complete list tomorrow. CS Tactical has the majority of them listed on the TBRC highlight thread. Once again, I would like thank our sponsors on behalf of NCPPRC for their support. Out event would not be what it is without your support.

And who can forget our “red shirt brigade”. 35 men and women of NCPPRC worked very hard over the last 4 days, setting up, putting on, and tearing down to make everything flow smoothly for our 66 competitors. They make my job so easy, it’s ridiculous. I pretty much cruised around all weekend in a golf cart visiting with competitors, and make sure things were flowing according to schedule. Thank you guys for all your hard work and dedication!

Day 1:

Alpha and Bravo Squad was assigned to the 1K Range. Alpha was shooting first, with Bravo shooting 2nd relay.

Charlie and Delta was assigned to the Steel Range.
We had a weather system move in on Saturday which turned what was already a challenging Course of Fire into something out of a nightmare for quite a few shooters. Our COFs are designed so that our top level competitors should be around 70% area, however by the end of the day on Saturday; it was more like 50% or less due to weather conditions.

A lot of people talk about high winds at their local range, but Sac Valley is a hard range to shoot in windy conditions due to the hilly terrain. Scores on day one reflected the conditions that everyone had to shoot in. By the time everyone was shooting the winds were blowing 25 to 30mph+, then the rain came. Most of us blame the crews out of Washington and Oklahoma for the bad weather.

We had a stage that was thrown out due to me not thinking about cross fires @ 100yards. George Gardner was kind enough to bring up a few issues he saw only after 6 shooters shot the stage. After thinking about the options, I decided to scrap the stage. Next year I will figure out how to run that stage properly.

We ended the day with a catered BBQ from Sierra Smoke House which everyone seemed to enjoy after a rough day on the range.

Day 2:

The squads flip flopped ranges.
Talk about a complete change in weather conditions, it was sunny with VERY light winds. David Skit dominated the 1K range with a 647 4X out of 830pts possible. 36 rounds were fired from 800 to 1Kyards. Total round count for the 1K range was 79 rounds.

On the steel range, the Alpha Squad and Bravo squad went to work taking advantage of the great shooting conditions. All the competitors knew that Sunday would be the day to either make ground, or extend their lead do to the weather conditions on the first day. Some were playing catch up, and some were putting it in high gear.

After all the rounds were down range, Francis “The Animal” took home the win by shooting an 886.12 on the steel range. I’ll get exact numbers in the next few days but I believe he shot near the 80% range of the possible score.

Congrats to Francis on his 2nd TBRC win. Francis took home first place at the 2009 TBRC as well. He is the first shooter to win a 2nd TBRC in our club’s history.

2nd to 10th honors goes to the following shooters:

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Congrats to all those who attended and Congrats to the crew for putting on a safe competition. We know all too well all the work that goes into putting on these competitions...it starts months ahead of time. Vu and crew, thank you for putting this competition on for everyone!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Great match. I thought it was pretty dang challenging but extremely well executed. Thanks to the home crew for all the work!

I had fun meeting some of y'all in living color after just seeing your ramblings here on the hide for so long. (But next year, please leave the wind back home when you come out.)

The rock-in-the-ruck is classic!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Vu, you did a wonderful job with your annual match. Sorry to bring the rain from Washington!!!

Big props for putting together a great set of RO's and event staff!! The stages ran perfectly because of them. Well done!

To the sponsors.....HOLY CRAP!!! You guys really make this thing happen. We all appreciate your generosity and it will not be forgotten.

Thanks again Vu, I look forward to seeing all you guys again!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

I would like to Thank Vu and his awesome crew for an excellent time. The RO staff was very professional and clear in direction. The COF was a great test of skill and a joy to shoot and learn. A really BIG Thanks to all the SPONSORS! Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

I hope there is an opportunity in the future to give this match another shot!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Big thanks to Vu and crew, I've never seen so much support staff, volunteers range officers and spotters at one match, really amazing that y'all give your weekend up for us to have fun. Another thanks to the many huge sponsors, Score High Rifles, GAP, Specialized Dynamics, USO, Premier, nightforce just to name a few, especially Charlie.
Thanks again NorCal.
Congrats Francis, you shot awesome,. Definitely lots of good shooters it was nice to shoot with you all again.
More later..

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Thanks for putting on such a great match. You guys do a first class job. Congats to all top shooters, great shooting. Wish I could have shot better but thats what I get for not practicing. It was great to see everyone. I had a great time.
Also a big thanks to all the great sponsers.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Great AAR Vu, makes me sick I wasnt there!
I'm not missing the next one, that's for damn sure!

Looks like the sponsorship was amazing as well as the shooting! Francis, Rich and Tim are solid shooters, but had to have kicked ass, that was a strong field!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Vu,

I don't know where to start, you put together an amazing setup. Great COF, fantastic RO's/spotters, and an amazingly smoothly run match with little to know hiccups. You put together a challenging but doable cof (not that you can tell by my score), i liked shooting the paper stages alot more than i thought i would.

To the sponsors you guys are amazing with your contributions you made it to where virtually anybody that was there went home with something cool.

I didn't have my best showing, but hopefully i will get another shot next year so i have a chance to redeem myself.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Glad you guys like the match, The team works hard so all you guys have to worry about is pulling the triggers. It was great meeting with you guys.

Most of the crew gave 2-3 days of their lives for the match, some of us a lot more, Please leave us feed back good or bad... what you want to see more or less of... like the food ? didnt like it ?

Either post it here or email Vu or myself ([email protected])

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

As a newer shooter I totally get that it's the shooter that wins matches, not the gear. Since above you are listing the most common calibers used in the match, any idea what the most common glass used was?

Congrats to all the great shooters and crew who ran the match.

Hope to shoot the match some day (on waiting list this year)

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

I personally thought the food and drink was great. I liked being able to grab something to drink whenever I needed. After two trips through the line with two double burgers there was still plenty of food to be had. Yeah jason, you guys did a great job, that stuff is not easy, that for sure, WELL DONE!!

I look forward to another shot at redeeming my horrible score. It can only get better from here!!! LOL.

No idea what the common glass was... we only know the calibers because we ask for it on reg form...

But I saw, NF USO Premier SB Hendsolt Vortex... 3-15, 4-16, and 5-25s...

again its always the indian not the arrow!!!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

I should have done more than a quick thanks to Vu above.

Thanks to all the RO's and all the red shirt helpers, score keepers, cooks and everyone else.

This is about the only match you'll ever find that has 1 volunteer for every 3 shooters....maybe even closer to 1 to 2.5 shooters. It's amazing the amount of support this crew gives.

Every target on the steel range seemed to have 2 or 3 spotters. It's nice to know that when you miss a target, you cleanly missed it, no way that 3 different spotters looking through high end glass missed even a less than ideal hit. You hit a plate and 3 spotters all shout IMPACT at the same time, makes you feel good. And when you miss.....well that silence isn't pretty, but at least you know it was a good call.

Thanks again to EVERYONE, from RO's and volunteers to my fellow shooters who shot a fair and safe match.

This one is on the list to make every year for sure.

Thanks again,

Jason
Team member of the Upper North NorCal Branch.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

This was my 4th go at TBRC and it gets better and better every year. The competition is higher and those steel targets seem to get smaller too...

If only my Saturday was as good as my Sunday...

You forgot to mention snickers bars!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Guys,

I appreciate all the kind words and thanks. But as I have always said, it's my crew that makes this event happen.

We had about 20 KOWAs and Vortex Spotting scopes on the steel range.

4 to 5 guys in the 1K pits to ensure targets were being pulled and marked correctly.

4 ROs on the steel range running 4 COFs at the same time.

2 ROs on the 1K line to ensure things were flowing.

The scoring ladies did a killer job. We had 1 minor issue that turned out to be a non-issue. I really appreciate Kevin Drake for bringing it up to our attention.

As a MD, I want to ensure that the integrity of our event is 100%. A competitor should get what they paid for, earned, and scored.

The final score spreadsheet will be available in a day or two on our club's website. We are also going through the pictures taken this past weekend as well.

As for the candy bars, no worries. I am just glad we didn't have to evac anyone off the range.

Jake, next time pack some food in that 50lb ruck bud.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Thank you Vu, Shawn and everyone that had a helping hand putting that match together. I know that it's a lot of time and hard work that the entire crew sacrifices into preparing everything that makes each TBRC better than the previous one. I just wanted to say that I'm honored to be part of NCPPRC.

It was great seeing old friends and making new friends and spending time with the Nor Cal crew laughing it up and having a great weekend.

As far as the shooting goes, I had a blast on both days. But day two was especially fun turning it up a notch or two at the steel range. The COF was challenging to say the least. My Bartlein Barreled 260 seemed to find the target flawlessly if I did my part with the correct wind calls.

With regards to all the sponsors for this TBRC that donated time and prizes, your generosity is very much appreciated.

A special and personal THANK YOU to George from GA Precision for the awesome new 308 I won and Derek from Surefire for the beautiful custom knife and tactical light.

In addition, I also wanted to say thanks to my friends that helped me with gear, advice, reloading info or just a helping hand this last year. Darrel - “Rage Machine”, Vu – “NCPPRC”, Vinny - “Invincible Gun Safes”, Marc - “Spartan Rifles”, David - “Tac Ready”, Todd – “Phantom Finishing”, Brian – “Bartlein Barrels”, Jeff - “U.S. Optics”, Scott - “Vortex”, Mike - “TIS”, Mike - “CS Tactical”, John - “Sierra Arms”, Charlie – “ScoreHi Gunsmithing”, David – “Pacific Tool and Gauge” and all my friends from Nor Cal.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

As always Vu and the NORCAL crew put on a great match. Top notch from start to finish and everything in between.

Thanks for all you guys do out there. You guys are great for the sport.

Keep up the good work!

Tony

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Once again the NORCAL crew put together an outstanding match. Thank you to all the people that put in so many hours of volunteer time so that this event takes place with such efficiency. The COFs were awesome, well thought out and very challenging. It was an awesome weekend of shooting, and hanging out with friends and making new ones.

The level of sponsors that was there this year was awesome. Thank you to all the sponsors for their generous donations and the NCPPRC crew’s hard work in bringing sponsors to the table. The prize table was so good that there were 2 trips to the table for everyone.

A special thanks to Scott of Specialized Dynamics for the awesome AR15 chambered in 6.5 Grendel, Surefire for the BadA$$ knife, and TAB for the certificate.

I was fortunate that all of my gear held together without incident and that my Bartlein Barreled 260 performed so accurately for me.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Thats for sure Vu, man you came to the rescue for sure,

That darn pack is way to big, it might be in the for sale section soon, bunch of wasted space!!!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

A BIG THANK YOU to Vu and his crew for a flawless weekend. The Norcal crew are some of the nicest, upstanding people you could shoot with.

Great people, great prizes, amazing time!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Wow. What a weekend. Vu, Shawn and crew once again put on a phenomenal match. Thank you guys for all of the time and hard work. Its amazing to see the number of volunteers, many of them TOP LEVEL shooters themselves, donate their weekend to helping run this match. Thanks again.

Francis is an absolute machine. I enjoy getting to shoot with him, talk about not only shooting, stages and strategy, but about life in general. He's a great competitor with a great attitude.

The prize table was flat unbelievable. From rifles to scopes, stocks, barrels...the generosity was amazing. I know I'll be spending my money accordingly. Thank you to all the sponsors. Special thanks to KMW for their donation to the prize table.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Triple Aught Design loved being there. It was great to meet everyone, talk about gear, drink a little... or a lot... grow envious of the many talented shooters and long for a rifle of my own. I think a Team TAD is in order. We're working on it.

Congratulations to all of the competitors. Thank you to all of the vendors. A special thanks to Vu Pham and his amazing team. Appreciate the food, friends and highly organized event - it was a blast.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

Yes, I must thank Triple Aught for the fantastic piece of kit - perfect as I am a Coyote Whore!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

A big thanks to Vu and the whole TRBC crew.
You guys did an incredible job bringing everthing together and making it run smooth.
And to the the long list of sponsors, WOW. There was a half dozen tables loaded with prizes. Despite very mediocre shooting
I still came away with a great prize.
There was at least 30-40 guys and gals that I brushed elbows with who donated their time to make this happen. Everyone of them had a great attitude, gave 110% all weekend. THANK YOU .

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

A gigantic thank you to the entire NorCal crew. I know running a match of that size is no easy task, but I gotta tell ya, you guys & gals make it look like a breeze. Fantastic spotters, clear instructions on all the challenging COF's, an amazing prize table, good food, and most of all, the chance to shoot with our friends. I spent a good amount of time learning new stuff by watching the more experienced shooters on my squad.

Thank you to all the very generous sponsors who donated a stunning display of goodies for everyone to choose from. I managed to pick up a certificate from Spartan Precision Rifles that was combined with one from Cerakote, and on the 2nd run through, snagged a certificate from Krieger. Not bad for 28th place.

I've got a lengthy list of stuff I need to work on and, as usual, you guys gave us ideas for stages for TPRC next year. Thank you all for an amazing job and for making it so much fun!

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

A huge THANK YOU to the NORCAL TBRC Match Directors, range & crew ... this was a very efficiently run match, very challenging, and a blast to shoot! You guys always put on a terrific event and this year was no exception -- I'm definitely looking forward to next year.

Thanks to the sponsors for another GREAT prize table - a special shout out to SureFire and Tactical Intervention for the prizes I scooped off of the table. The match was rewarding enough as it was, but the prize table made it sweeter :)

To the shooters of Delta squad -- it was great spending the weekend shooting with you all. It's always nice to see old friends and meet new folks as well.

Way to go Vu and crew. I wish that I could have made it down (hopefully next year). You guys are a class act. Looking forward to shaking your hand in a week or so. Steve.

Re: 2011 NorCal TBRC AAR

I've been getting calls, emails, and FB messages about some of the rumors some of you may have heard about our 2012 event, so here is the scoop as of today...

We're already laying down the ground work for this one since it will be the biggest TBRC ever.

This event will be an invitational, with a few lottery spots available.

80 shooters.

260 to 275 rounds.

September 29th 30th. 28th will be a check in day. (This date is already locked in)

No pit pulling. I have worked out a deal with the Jr. High Power team to pull targets. This lil fundraiser will help send them to Camp Perry, it's a win/win situation for all.

You'll have an extra 2 to 3 hours of shooting.

Cost will be going up to 230.00

25.00 of that 230.00 will all go to the Jr. HP team to help send them to the Camp Perry. Other increases will cover coins, mugs, patches, hats, and shirts.
