    Let’s see em

Groundhogs are finally out all over the place

    18” 6.5CM, 140 AG, maybe 150 yards

I have always wanted to do that. Owned land with ground squirrels, and prairie dogs, but never killed a rock chuck.

When I was in Germany it is a big thing for hunters to go to Austria or Slovenia to hunt them. Was like $1200-1800 for 1 or 2. They are considered serious big game there.

    Some good shooting right there

No Varmets but did score this guy the other morning

This was groundhog #6 of the year with the 6.5 CM and cheap s&B soft points. Also got a skunk and a couple muskrats. Haven’t seen a coyote since March unfortunately.

Is that the NX8? If so, how do you like it?

I currently run a LRHS 4.5-18 but looking to eventually upgrade to a NX 8, Mark 5 or AMG.
Yes. Big fan of the 4-32 for varmints. I have a 4-16 atacr too and the glass is a shade nicer but the extra mag is nice when they are only sticking theirs heads our or obscured by vegetation like mr bean eater above

Any experience with the mark 5 or AMG to compare to the NX8?

i feel like these are the only 3 options for hybrid scopes with higher mag levels and FFP that aren’t boat anchors or $3000+

I have a mark 5 3.6-18 thar I haven’t mounted yet. The glass and turrets are nice but I’m more confident in Nightforce durability

Been using the mark5 since it came out. 3.6-18 and the 5-25, and I just got a 7-35 a couple weeks ago and can assure you durability is definitely not a problem just like it’s not with a nightforce.

Went for prairie dogs a few weeks ago. Did a lot of short shooting with 17 hmr which is our go to rifle for them, but I did break out the new 6.5cm for a few longer range attempts. Killed one at 492 yds. Got close at 650 but he didn't want to stay for any more volleys. I could have spent all day at mid-long range but my hunting partner was getting antsy for the chip shots again. I'll have to try to find a pic.

I had a Mk5 for a brief period of time. Never mounted it though. Glass and turrets were on par or a shade better. Nice scope. Sold it cause the reticle was a t3 non illuminated which isn’t good for hunting imo. Plus too many reports about tracking issues.

I recently traded into a kahles 3-18. Seems like a awesome scope but haven’t had time to mess with it much or mount it. Too much work

Edit: forgot I already answered that question lol

Lol it’s appreciated because I still haven’t decided. I’m leaning heavily towards picking up a used Mk5 5-25 with the illuminated TMR. That way I can still see it at low mag and I prefer simply reticles.

Back in April or May, shot this little guy at about 25yds off hand kneeling as I was walking to find the one I popped a pup at about 175yds. Momma drug the pup in the hole but had no troubles finding this one. Haven’t been able to find another decent town in Colorado yet to shoot them with my Vudoo or my BR unfortunately.

    Thanks.

It’s a Gemtech sandstorm I bought years ago. Good light strong titanium can. Lowlight has good things to say about them also. It’s a shame Gemtech got bought and went to crap
I agree, I have 5 different gemtech's from 10 years ago, working great

Yeah. Up until then I thought it was heresy but I literally stared at the pup for a few seconds after the shot and it was definitely dead, and then on my trek out there and shooting the one above, it was gone with little blood trail into its hole. Prairie dogs are nasty critters forsure tho!

Once I get my s&b back from VA, I may try and go back out there and pop some with my BR. 105 hybrids should put them down right?

Oh, and what about turtles? The pond we stocked with fish is starting to reveal many many turtles. They like to feed on fish fry but most importantly, fish eggs...
