With 39 gr SBKs I can’t come close to touching my lands. I have been setting them just a little deeper than the micro boat tail. Loading books recommend a lot more bullet in the case. What are the rest of you doing?

There is a lot of data on internet regarding 204’s long jump. I just ordered a new barrel and the smith used his stock reamer and the closest I could get was 0.020 from the lands. (I would have to go look at how much bullet was in the case) I tried from 0.080 to 0.021 and best result was at 0.050 jump. I posted a few pictures of my groups a few weeks ago -
 
I shoot them in a Tikka varmint stainless factory rifle. I cannot touch the lands at all with the 39sbk.

I would not worry about touching so much as finding a good powder charge and then doing a seating depth test to fine tune.

I have no idea how far it is jumping but it is over book length, right at max mag OAL if I remember correctly. Burning 8208XBR.
