I sized some 22-250 cases in my 6 Creed dies and it looks like it fits my Creedmoor chamber, now the 250 cases hold about 6.6grs less powder(760), question is if I load those 250 cases up with 35grs RE17 is there going to be any problem fireforming them in my 6 Creed chamber? Will the shorter 250 case neck affect anything?

It will blow them out or up, the case-sholder OD is about .050 smaller & the lenght is about .020 longer.

One eye one hand wild cater, or worse.

The shorter neck won't hurt anything. I would be more concerned with proper headspace. Did you neck the 22-250 cases up to something larger than 6mm first, then down to 6mm, setting your die for a slight crush fit when chambering the 22-250 brass? As far as powder charge, I would use a slightly less than max load of a kinda fast burning powder.

Nope, just ran them thru my custom 6 creedmoor FL dies with 268 bushing with the expander. The shoulder looks a bit higher on the 250 case so wouldnt the headspace be fine? The 35grs of RE17 should be about equal to 41.5grs in the 6 Creed brass, max load for the creed should be right around 43grs RE17, give or take.
Maybe ill smoke the shoulder to see if Im making any kind of contact.

Re: 22-250 cases for 6 Creed?

It's possible the expander ball would pull the shoulder far enough forward to headspace ok, but I'd be hesitant without the crush fit. Should be able to feel it on bolt closing. On the other hand, John Barsness wrote an article a couple of years back on the 6.5 CM and easily made brass from 22-250 cases using pistol powder, cream of wheat, and a patch to hold things in place. Seems like there were posts talking about this on either here or the Campfire a few months back. Might run a search on it. I don't still have that magazine issue or I'd send it to you.

Smoking the shoulder might tell ya, but ya might not wanna do it on a loaded round...

Looks like it's making contact, so you'll probably be fine. Can you feel a little resistance when closing the bolt? Pressure shouldn't be the problem. You just want to make sure you don't have any excessive headspace so you don't have a case separate or get too thin in the web area.

After some long hard deciphering I came up with a load that works for fireforming the 22-250 brass, 30.5grs RE15. Im not telling where I tried this load out but the primer looked perfect and the brass itself looked just like my Hornady brass, kudos to me, LOL
