ok guys

I have a 22-250 Rem 700 VLSS which has a 1-14 twist 26 inch long barrel.

Question i have is whats the heaviest bullets i can push through it with out losing the sizes of my groups? I have been using 55gr bullets but would like to go heaver so do i just need to go to a new barrel with faster twist or what ?

and yes i do hand load so that's no problem.

thanks for any info

Re: 22-250 factory barrel questions

You are correct, with the 14 twist, 55 is gonna be about the longest bullet you can run.

My advice would be to let the 22-250 do what it does best and shoot the 55's and lighter. Then, get yourself a .243 to shoot a heavier round. They've got mild recoil and great ballistics. Just my opinion though.
