All,

I've searched but not found anybody claiming experience chambering a 22-250ai specifically for the 95gr Sierra Matchking. I figured this forum was a good place to ask for direction. I'm sure reamer companies can add great advice and calling a few is my next move.

I'm wanting advice on throat length necessary for that long bullet and advice on some extra length to help pressure subside slightly, allowing to push a little harder, and still get accuracy needed for long range. Will be 5R rifling. Has anybody here done it or had it done for the 95 SMK?

Any direction is appreciated.

I know this is for a 22-250AI but ive been running a 22 Creedmoor now for a while. If i did it over I would use the 22-250AI. I had my reamer made to shoot the 90grn Berger VLD . It has .148 freebore with 1deg lead angle.
Call JGS or PTG and explain what you're looking for, they'll get you sorted out .

Not saying its better but in my case i was looking to run 90 grn berger VLD's no faster than 3200FPS (PRS/NRL rules) . The 22-250AI will do that with less powder and higher percentages of case capacity.

Can you 2 guys explain to me why the 22-250 ai is better than the 22 creedmoor. Why not just go 22 Creedmoor?

No special reason, Codiekfx400.

I have been in the 22-250 for years and have brass, dies, proven loads, etc. I thought/think about the 22CM but I'm not sure I want to go with another new cartridge. I have several lifetimes of brass for 22-250 and quality 22CM/6CM/6.5CM brass is less plentiful, pricey, etc. I like the thought of going 22CM, too, though.....

I've shot a 22-250 Ackley and with 90gr Sierra bullets. Freebore will need to be at a .2245 to .2248 diameter and at least .150 in length and a 1° 30 min lead angle. Very good cartridge for 1500 yr prairie dogs, ps,,,, 30 or 32 inches long should do.

Thank you, Sir. I appreciate your post. Good knowledge.

Robert, have you worked with the 95gr SMK yet? Are you meaning your posted numbers will be the same for the 90 and the 95s? Or were you meaning those numbers for the 95? Just clarifying.

Thank you!

Did you ever get this figured out? Patriot Valley Arms is making me a 1:7 twist 22-250AI to shoot the 95 SMK’s. They are requesting a dummy round but I don’t have any brass to make one or a 250AI chamber to form them.

I ordered a custom reamer from a well-know reamer maker. If I were to do it again, I would call JGS, and only JGS, and order a custom reamer with about .169 freebore or have Patriot use a standard 22-250 AI 40 degree shoulder reamer and a throating reamer to get to the .169 ish freebore. Your 7 twist will be fine. Next time, I'm going to go slower than that and see what happens.
