22 ammo results from a test on Accurate Reloading

Re: 22 ammo results from a test on Accurate Reloading

I love to see this stuff... I am an Eley slut, so the results look good to me. :) But I would caution that the results are most applicable to a specific rifle and a specific lot of ammo. That said, it should give an idea as to which brands are more consistent.

Another thing that nags me about the test is that I ran the targets in On-Target and it looks like he is off on the group measurement. It doesn't invalidate the results... they should be proportional either way, but I am wondering how he is measuring groups.

Wow, someone has way too much free time on their hands! Nice find of 22lr comparisons in a match grade rifle. I have good luck with the Remington/Eley Match EPS which is reflected in the testing. My favorite, tightest grouping, reasonably priced 22lr ammo in my Cooper 57M wasn't even tested! Try a few boxes of what you can find in your budget range then buy as much as you can of what works best in your rifle.

Neat to see, however what they say about rifles choosing what they like still holds true as the limited test I did with my own rifle had different results then his.

Velocity SD numbers are invaluable in this type of test. You can see vertical stringing on some of the 100 yards targets. The ammo that performed well at 50 yards, but opened up at 100 yards likely had high SD numbers.

Long range with a .22LR is no different than long range with a centerfire. Velocity needs to be consistent. 100 yards is getting into the realm of long range for a .22LR
