I have been looking for a 22 bolt action takedown rifle, is there such a weapon? Like the HS percision center fire rifle only in 22 cal. thanks. MM

Re: 22 cal take down

it's a semi, not a bolt, but will do.
http://www.henryrepeating.com/rifle-survival-ar7.cfm

i think mossberg made some bolt action and hammer / lever action take downs years ago.

another semi

(can't import into the U.S.) http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/22-JW-20.shtm

another semi
http://www.marlinfirearms.com/firearms/selfloading/70pss.asp

browning made a takedown also, but is BIG $.

seemingly most manufacturers made some sort of takedown through the ages, semi or lever, but are mostly now antiques and hard to find or very expensive.

Re: 22 cal take down

NEF makes a single shot take down .22 that has the advantage of being able to be fitted with .17M2, .17HMR and .22 Mag barrels although each barrel would require its own scope.

Re: 22 cal take down

Crowhop,

I thought I remembered Marlin making one but I might have been thinking of the Mod. 70 Papoose semi. I remember a pic of one like it was yesterday on my PC. I'll do some looking and see if I can find it.

Re: 22 cal take down

There's the Stevens Favorite takedown, it's a single shot. I have a Norinco ATD which is a Clone, and a damn good one, of the Browning ATD takedown they go for less then $200 typically on GB.

Re: 22 cal take down

I couldn't find the pic but the rifle I was thinking of is the Marlin 25MB Midget Magnum. It was a .22 mag with a 16.5" barrel and enlarged takedown screw.

Here's a link to an old auction. I'm almost 100% sure the guy was right about the years of production.

There are some pretty decent pics in this ad (of course it's also sold)

I looked through the Marlin Firearms book by Lt. Col. William S. Brophy, USAR Ret. and the 25MB is the only takedown bolt model listed. They could have made one after his book but I don't remember seeing one. Either way the little 25 is kind of a neat rifle IMO.

Re: 22 cal take down

It’s surprising how few good takedown 22lr rifles there are. You might want to look at Ares RCU. CMMG is coming out with a quad rail switch barrel system and some other neat stuff which might be worth looking at if you want a ar15 type 22lr.

Re: 22 cal take down

Definitely go with a bolt action for a first rifle.

Why buy Chinese when you can have an AMURICAHN rifle like this:

The TC Hot Shot is nice and small but it doesn't take down like a TC Encore.

Re: 22 cal take down

i think the sako quad is the closest thing to what your looking for . i really wish there were more options on this field .
my choice would be either a t/c or a marlin lever action

Did not know that, never seen one in person! Good stuff.

Re: 22 cal take down

The marlin 39A is a hard to beat take-down. It is accurate, high quality, and fun to shoot. Plus, it would go nicely with a freedom arms 97 in 22lr.

Love the 39A. Have been looking for one for several years and have yet to find one.

Re: 22 cal take down

I've got a 39A that was my Dad's. While it does take down, the barrel is a little long to be considered a compact package IMO. They had a 39TDS w/a 16.5" barrel, straight stock, and a case similar to the mod. 70. I'd love to get my hands on one but they command top dollar since they were only in production for a couple (2-3) years.

Re: 22 cal take down

Browning used to advertise the 39A as a takedown pack rifle for Scouts in Boy's Life.

Different day, a lot more dollars...

Not a bad idea.

Looks pretty interesting. Their site needs more information on this rifle.

Re: 22 cal take down

Thant rifle looks better then the last time I looked at their site, but I am kind of unsure how the action works. It looks like the bolt maybe made out of brass… They also need to add a trigger guard and make it work with ar-15 hand grips.

Re: 22 cal take down

In regards to the Cricket, that's not a bad idea. You could swap out the action screws for something with a large hand-tightening head, and would break down pretty small. They even make one .22 Mag...

Re: 22 cal take down

I agree with Tatical-Tom really isn't much out here and to add to this my grandson is 6' 4" tall works out all the time so i want to get him something he can feel comfortable with. MM

Re: 22 cal take down

I grew up with a PAPOOSE, it went everywhere with me. Recently my grampa gave me his Marlin 39. The 39 is a take down rifle but when broken apart the action is wide open for debris to foul up. I would not reccomend it to pack around that way. I also have a Sako Quad and it is a good rifle, but broken down it is still going to be in big pieces.

I really like that Marlin 25MB, I am going to look into one for my son. He currently has a CZ Scout, and a cricket. There is no comparing those two. The CZ feels like a real rifle and the Cricket feels like a toy. I went CZ because I want it to be something he can own the rest of his life.

Re: 22 cal take down

Fisf301 Thanks for wakeing my brain, I am taking Grandson to a show and see what they have. And thanks to all who have helped, he may not fit it but we have alot of fine suggestions thanks to yall.MM

Re: 22 cal take down

I have both: Browning semi auto (easier to take down) & Marlin 39A Golden. They're great!

Re: 22 cal take down

Like the Marlin 39, the Winchester 9422 and 9422M lever actions are takedowns. All three are excellent quality and hold value.
