After posting about how much I love the the 220 swift and why it gets no love. I caught the bug for a 22 CM. I currently shoot 80-90 gr pills in my swift with a 1-8” and a mild load of H4831sc. Mind you I have no stability issues with 69gr SMK over H4350 (that load is hot) to 90gr over H4831. The smith is thinking 1-6.5”. This will be the first time chambering for a 22 CM. He’s done a lot of 6 & 6.5 CM. I know it’s not apples to apples as far as case dimensions and capacity, but 1-6.5” seems like i would lose the flexibility I have with my swift. I’m thinking it would create too many rpm’s. In the event I wanted to drop down to use the 70-75gr I would have have stability issues. Thanks in advance for your input.

My 26" is a 7 twist and Im pushing 85 rdfs at 3380, thats 347k rpm.

Im sort of scared of it.

My next will be an 8 twist, the same set up would only be 304k rpm and my stress levels about using my can would be much lower.

Why do guys have 6.75 & 6.5tw 22 creed? 90-95 is heaviest available, not sure why they get that fast twist and then have to limit their speed to maintain bullet integrity. I guess if there's speed limit cap of 3200, but I'm in spifes camp. If you got the speed, super fast tw isn't needed. If we were talking 223/223ai/224valk, or maybe a 16.5-18" 22 creed, I could see the need for 6.75-6.5.

Mine is in 1 in 7 with a 24 inch tube. It shoots 80.5 Bergers just dandy. You might wander over to Berger's website and check out their bullet stability calculator. They do recommend a 6.5 twist for the 90 grain VLD at what most would consider sane velocities.

Bingo. That's why I posted that thread.
