Well my 7mag will not be done until January, and I have not yet made a dope card yet. How much can I learn with a .22 here? I have a range finder, kestrel with applied ballistics, optic scope, chronograph, and a will to learn.

I think plenty.
Shoot a .22 at 300 yards with HV ammo. Drop and flight time is similar to a .308 at 1,000. The wind at 300 will also push it like a .308 at 1,000.
I shoot .22 long distance as much as possible. It will not be like shooting your 7 mag but it will be fun and you can spend some time learning/reading wind.
