Im prety much dead set on a savage mkII fv-sr. Its a 16" treaded barrel with no sights & a rail. Im wanting to set to set this up as a trainer, but also be able to bring it out squirl hunting & pest shooting.

For the trainer aspect, Im wanting something that is mil dot, with a top end of 9-10, and for the hunting a bottom end of around 2-3.

Im thinking something along the lines of a Weaver Kaspa ext tac would be a good start, its got mill dots and not a BDC pending the rest of the specs.

Does anyone know of any other scopes what fit with a short parallax?

Im looking at a budget of about 300 or so for the glass.

Its a little outside of your zoom ranges but I use a falcon menace 4-14 X 44 on my trainer. Its mil mil and ffp. I wouldnt hesitate to take it out and hunt with it. They can be had for as low as $250 in the classifieds here.

Just my .02

I asked this same question a while ago and went with the Weaver Tactical Grand Slam at Midway. It frequently (every couple months) goes on sale for $299. It had been reviewed by numerous people on here with really no negatives. It has mil/mil, and 3-10 power, and is within your price range. I've had mine for almost a year now and love it. Great image quality and feature for the money.

Hit up jay on here from Opticsspecialists and I recommend the Vortex series for getting the most bang for your buck. PST is really nice.

I did the Weaver Grand Slam Tactical with Mil-Dot and I believe it was around $299.00 on sale at Midway USA if my memory serves me right...good luck in your search. So far I am happy with the scope and shoot from 50 to 200 yards currently.

Re: 22 optics help general purpose / trainer

I went with the SWFA 3-9x42 Tactical Riflescope for my .22 trainer. I have the SWFA SS 5-20X50 In my big rifle and thought I'd try to keep it as close as possible for the trainer (within a bit of a budget), and the reviews Oof the 3-9x40 were uniformly positive so that's the route I went. It helped that they had a demo on the samplist and I was able to save $100. I have seen some good used prices here as well.
