My wifes boss asked her to ask me if I could help him find some ammo for an obscure(to me) cartridge.

To be honest, I'd never heard of it until she asked me tonight.

I dont know many details, but he is firing it from a "pistol", he told her. So, I assume it is a revolver of some sort.

He just wrote down- "22 Rem Jet- Pistol ammo"

I briefly looked and found a few odds and ends. Doesnt appear to be anyone loading this commercially, and he doesnt reload, but has been saving his brass.

Anyone here load this cartridge? Any sources for loaded ammo, etc?

Just trying to help him out, thanks. Off to do some searching and just wanted to get this going.

I believe that would be a S&W Model 53. The one I dealt with had inserts so you could also shoot .22LR.

It was a good idea that didn't quite work out. The ctg was a long-shouldered affair and according to what I read, the chambers had to be totally free of oil because of the case design. You can make Jet cases out of .357 Mag brass. I tried to make some, but I did not have case forming dies and things did not turn out well.

The hammer of the 53 is interesting. It has a firing pin that allows you to change from rimfire to centerfire by moving a hinged piece.

Interesting pistol.

I never was "in" the business. (laffin').

It is funny how you came to be looking for some information on this ctg. I have a friend in White Co, Tn., that had a wonderful firearms collection. He had a pantload of pre-'64 Winchesters(a model 71, several 94s, Mod 70 varmint rifles, etc.) and some oddities. The Jet falls under the "oddities."

He dug it out and handed it to me and asked me to load him up some ammo. This was in the late 1980s and I had been reloading for several years. I tried making the brass from the .357 cases, but it was not going to happen without the forming dies. I even tried annealing the brass before sizing it, but my luck was not good.

Same situation as you are in.

"Hey, your husband likes guns. Have him see what he can do about getting me some ammo for this thing."

I would fall back and punt.

Take care,
