.223 1/9 twist 20 inch barrel. 68 Hornady or 69 grain Sierra bullets?

Given the above information what bullet would you use? I’m looking for something to load to play with using varget powder

The hornady is cheaper at 17-19 cents per where the sierras are looking like .25 cents per. I would go hornady in this case if forced to choose on this info only.

Bbut buy a box of each and see which works easiest/best and then stock up.

Either is a good choice.
I do tend to get better accuracy with the 69 SMK’s in my AR’s though but not by much and that’s just my rifles.

Don't rule out the Nosler's their 69 an 77's stay right with the smk's at least from what I've shot.

I have both bullets, I have both manuals. I have the same brass and primer from the Sierra manual, and will build that load first with Varget.

When I start looking for a new load, I always start with the manual, pick the bullet and build the load using the components out of that manual.

Haven't started testing yet, but I'll be starting with the Sierra.

They should shoot very similar, if you check the depot there is a lot info with varget for the Sierra's if you want to browse for what other people have had luck with. I found Varget to work quite well

73gr ELD-M shoot very well over Varget in my 1:9 22" Remington. It's my 600yd clay pigeon gun.

i bought a bunch of the hournady 75 hpbt a while back and been using those in a factory savage 1-9tw. 20 or 22 in barrel, been a while since its been out. i would have to double check load but its with varget somewhere around 23.5g. xbr8208 works well also. ipreferred tthe 75 over the 68- 69 smk.

My .223 gets 69gr matchkings over Varget, CCI 400, mixed (mostly lc 15/17) brass. Holds tight ("sub moa all day" lol), reliable, repeatable.

My 1-9 twist AR shoots 69 SMK better then the 75 OTM. Shoots 77 SMK even better. Only your unique barrel will decide.

73 eld's is what I shoot with Varget, 20" 1-9 twist. 650 is no problem. My "prs" range is 0-555 without walking to move to a longer shot. Shop around for the bullets and get the ready to load LC brass here, off the px.

I'm running Win brass with that 73 eld load until it's done then I'll be switching to LC. I have a 62 bthp load I use with LC and thrown blc-2 to practice positional shots. I've never chronographed it, I just know what what I need to dial to get to 450 and try to get in some practice.

Both Hornady 68 gr and 75 gr BTHP's shoot really well (less than 1/2 moa) in my Rem 700 SPS Tac with a 20" barrel and 1:9 twist., and others have said they're cheaper than the Sierra's
