I've looked on the forum extensively and haven't exactly found exactly what I was looking for...

Curious what kinds of velocities folks are seeing from their 223s with 68/75gr Hornady HPBT and/or the 69gr SMK in an accuracy load. I'm also curious about powder used, type of action and barrel length (charge data would be nice but not necessary).

THANKS!

Thank you for the friendly nudge...some gun board folks aren't quite so subtle. I have edited my post accordingly.

I don't want to step on any toes and understand Mr. Dillon's request, but seeing what the program says I'm supposed to get then verifying it over a chrony (that I haven't yet purchased) would certainly improve my odds of buying QL in the future.

Re: 223 and 68/69/75gr velocities?

The loads I have shot and chronographed are as follows.

16" barreled OBR 556 with 1:8 twist. IMI brass, CCI 450 primer, 77g SMK, OAL 2.255 used 24.4g of BLC2 when it was chronoed. Eventually settled on 26g. of BLC2 for better accuracy and velocity to at least 600 yards. The chronoed 24.4 grains had average fps of 2462.

Did same with SMK 69, OAL of 2.235, BLC2 26 grains, average fps of 2665.

20" remington 1:9 twist barrel
2820 fps average with 75 gr. HPBT
25 grains varget. Be Careful, this might be high pressure in your gun. Start at least as low as 24 grains.

Re: 223 and 68/69/75gr velocities?

20" Noveske
70gr VLD Berger
25.4 gr RL-15
CCI 41
MV = 2895fps

20" Noveske
77gr SMK
24.3 gr RL-15
CCI 41
MV = 2655fps

I have other loads, but these are my most commonly used. I can provide MV from my 14.5" Noveske as well if interested.

WORK UP ABOVE - THEY ARE 5.56mm NATO PRESSURE, NOT 223REM PRESSURE.
