.223 and IMR 4064

Re: .223 and IMR 4064

I use 25.5 with the 55's. It's about all you can get in the case. I worked well in both my 1:9 and 1:8 twist sticks. As I have a pound and want to try some 75's I'm trying 21 to 21.5 with some Hornadys.

My local shop was out of RL-15, Varget, BLC-2 and anything else I'd have preferred. 4064 happened to be $8 bucks a pound cheaper than the rest too.

Re: .223 and IMR 4064

a little load i used in my ar...

MAX. TRIM 1.750
MIN. TRIM 1.760
TRIM TO 1.757
SM. RIFLE PRIMER
MAX. OAL 2.260
SHELL HOLDER#10
55GR. FMJ BOATTAIL MOLY
OAL 2.24
24 GR OF 4064 BULK/EASY LOAD, 300 RDS PER CAN

WITH A 100 YARD ZERO:
+.5" @ 50
0 @ 100
-1.5" @ 150
-3" @ 200

a "lite load" nice for rapid fire.

Re: .223 and IMR 4064

IMR 4064 is a horrible powder for .223, those long grains get hung up trying to go in.

I never could get enough in the case to get the velocity to a competitive level. That said, it did shoot some nice groups.

Re: .223 and IMR 4064

23.6-24.0 is the accuracy range that I found good results from with 75 Amax's. It's a bit on the slow side for 55's, BLC2 or H335 would be a better choice and they meter a whole lot better.

23.8 of I4064 is my chosen load for the 75 Amax's since I can be +/- 0.1gr and still have a low ES and I can throw the charges instead of trickling them for anything inside 600y.

Re: .223 and IMR 4064

24.3 grains of 4046 with a 60 V-Max will consistently shoot clover-leafs in my Savage bolt. OAL at 2.345 using LC 09 brass and Wolf 223 primers. Don't get as good results with the 55 V-max and 4046 in this rifle. Don't have a chronograph, but no pressure signs with the 24.3 and 60 v-max.
