Merry Xmas forumites!

I have a batch of once fired Fiocchi brass (55gr FMJ sealed primers with some green stuff) I tumbleld and cleaned in prep for reloading them wit heavier projectiles but it seems that the primer pockets are a tad bit too small because 4 times out of 5 I seem to be deforming the primer on the edges. What must I do to resolve this issue? I thought of using the right size drill bit but that'll be painful due to the quantity I have to deal with.

Sounds like your going to need to remove the crimp.....

need to use a primer pocket indexer
after you remove any crimp

Say's it doesn't remove the military/primer crimp.
I made up a bit out of an old screw driver.
I filed the angle's I wanted on 4 side's ,cut it off with a hacksaw,heated it up and dopped it into oil.
That was 20 year's ago

There are several types of tools to remove a primer crimp. The lowest price is a hand held trimmer. Case in one hand, trimmer in the other. This slow and tedious. I've done too many to count for .45 ACP and 500 .308, they were the last straw. Next up is a press mounted unit like RCBS makes. I bought one and never used it, might be good? I think the Dillon De-swager is the best. It presses the crimp back in and s pretty quick once you set it up. Both of these need to be set up for the case you are using. When set right for one case it may not be set right for a different brand. There are also motorized cutters and case prep centers. I haven't used any of them to comment on. Depending on how often you work crimped primers I'd opt for one of the mechanical units like the RCBS or Dillon.

The Dillon Swager is the way to go to remove military crimps. Easy and fast.

If you don't have too many to do, use your wilson case mouth in/out chamfer, and remove just enough crimp to get your primers to seat without issues. Done. JPG

Midway is a few bucks less, $26.99. I'm holding onto it as a back up.

I'd say measure the ram on your press, my RCBS Rock Chucker ram is .995 inch. I don't know exactly where the decrimper is but I'll measure it when I find it.

i have been using the rcbs prep station, was looking the at dillon at but seen this last night on another site. ordered one and will give it a try.

Weldon Countersink DB18 90 degree

"I ended up buying a Weldon Countersink bit like this for about $20:

I chucked it up into my drill press and swung the table out of the way. To remove the crimp, I just touch the primer pocket onto the bottom of the spinning bit. You get a feel for it and end up removing only the little burr left over after the spent primer pushes out the crimp.

It's about 4 times faster than any other method I've tried, and leaves the cases easy to prime."
