How much dimensional variation exists in dies of the same manufacturer or same caliber/different manufacturer? I am looking for what the OD of .223 brass is coming out of different manufacturers Fl dies with the expanded removed. I will start

RCBS .236
Forster .240

The Forster feels much smoother and I am not even sure I am going to send it off and have the neck opened anymore... it is giving me pretty good results.

Anyone care to chime in on how "tight" their fl dies squeeze the necks on. 223 cases?

Re: .223 FL sized neck diameter

I am not sure it will help you but I run a .244, .245 and .246 bushing on my redding FL die. Each size is for a different brass manufacture. I don’t use the expander ball.

Re: .223 FL sized neck diameter

Alright thank you for the feedback this is helpful!
I was planning on sending my Forster out to get opened up, and I still might but it seems the sizing cycle isn't nearly as violent as my RCBS die. Handle effort (although a .223 by no means requires a lot of effort) on the Forster is noticeably less.

I was curious as to how much variation there is in between dies of the same caliber and brand and .241 vs .236 is pretty significant, because the case both gets sized down and up that translates to an extra 10 thousandths of sizing between our RCBS dies.

Thanks again for posting up your die information!

My Forster FL size die runs .241 without expander, .246 with.
