223 issues with 10 rd Magpul

I'm noticing it's not picking the round up and even when it does, the firing pin doesn't always hit the primer (at all). Not sure what's going on. I changed the buffer from 3Oz to H2 and that helped some. It's a mid-length 18" Aero Precision (yes, I know..but it's supposed to be my lightweight toy in case I have another accident on the lake).
Thoughts? I may try a USGI aluminium mag next.

Was this a home build or factory? what gen mag is it? Is the bolt not picking up any of the rounds or just the last round In the mag. Have you tried other mags?

We need a lot more info.

First of all, it's a 20 round mag...my bad. Gen 2.

Home build, UBR Gen 2 stock, H2 buffer and carbine spring. New bolt carrier group as well. Mid-length gas tube, aero precision 18" barrel.

It appears to be doing a couple of things. 1) it doesn't pick up the next round in the magazine regardless of which round. 2) Then on occasion it's like the firing pin doesn't hit the cartridge either, like the bolt isn't closing all the way.

Not a primary gun for me, but I'd like to get it working...... Never had any issues like this before in a build so this has me a bit puzzled. I'll take another magazine with me next time. The 20 round is nice if you're on a bench sighting in optics.

early 20rd pmags had feeding problems but it sounds like there could be other issues. I would start with checking your head space.

Does it work with any type of magazine or does it have the same issue?

So many variables here...

If you manually work the bolt does it always pick up a round? Is the failure to feed only after you have shot a round...Is the bolt short stroking? When it does pick up a round, but fails to ignite, is the bolt closed all the way? What gas block is on it? Running it bone dry or with some lube?
