Alright guys....my new action just came in. I was originally gonna run a 1/7 223 setup to run 88 ELDs....but I'm considering running 224 Valkyrie with 90s or so. I cant seem to find any decent info on what guys are getting velocity wise out of 24"-26" bolt guns.

Anyone have any info?

I'm getting 2885 Avg with 88's and Varget. PVA barrel with a loooonnnggg freebore. Groups in the .3's with an SD of 10. 26" barrel.

Dont flame me here, trying to learn.

Is there that much of a difference in velocity if both barrels are the same length, same twist, same ammo, ie 26 inch between the semi and bolt action?

The semi auto should be slightly slower due the the gas system bleeding off pressure from the barrel. I've Never done any test like this head to head but that is what I understand the difference to be. Also with a bolt rifle you should be able to load to longer OAL for more case capacity. But that eliminates your same ammo part of your equation.

I'm running a 24in 1:7 twist barrel on my nucleus and right now I'm getting 2830 with 88 gr eldm bullet with zero pressure signs was planning on going higher but have been having a terrible time with light primer strikes so I'm waiting till my 25lb striker spring shows up from ARC and then Ill continue my load development.

I have a 22 inch barrel 1:7 twist and shooting factory loaded Hornady 88 gr ELD.

At 63 F I was getting 2637 FPS. At 83 F, the velocity jumped up to 2694 FPS.
