anyone using the 225's in a win mag? i have been thinking of trying them out but when i punch the data into my phones ballistics calc. it shows the supersonics range is shorter than the 208's so i know i will get a bit better performance in the wind than the 208's but is it worth it to have to work up another load and collect data again? now im pushing my 208's to 2800 and i know there is some left but dont wanna push the max in my budget long range rifle. can the 225's be pushed to 2800 safely. what are other people doing with the 225's.

I have a .300WM and had the same question. I'm sure you'll get a better/more relevant answer but I wanted to piggy-back. I settled on the 215 grain berger vld with a G1 BC of .696. It seems "diminishing returns" (bc vs. velocity) start to happen around the 210-215 grain range for .300WM. Sure, you have the great bc that comes with a heavier bullet but you can't push it as fast without getting pressure issues. Depending on your chamber, barrel, etc and the temp of the ammo I would think 2800 would be attainable without issues. The fastest I've been able to push my 215's is 2850 using H1000 but I suspect I might be able to get a little better.

I chronoed HSM's 210 grain berger vld ammo, which has a claimed velocity of 3050 fps (enough to make you skeptical),out of my custom .300WM I was amazed to find that when the ammo was HOT to the touch it did exactly 3050fps and did not show pressure signs. Not sure how they got it to go that fast, which makes me think you could push a 225 past 2800 with no problem . Best of luck and I'll be watching this post.

I have been running the 225's for a while now in my 300WM @ 2836fps. I have also run the 208 A Max, 210 VLD, 220SMK, & now the 230 Hybrid Target. In my experience, the 225's are the most accurate so far out of my rifle. My load is 73.5-74.1 gr of H-1000 with a moly'd 225. Shoots sub .2 moa. I'm still doing confirmation on the 230 Hyb but so far it has won me an ELR match with several 1st rnd hits past 1000 yds, inc. a 1st rnd hit, & 4 in a row @ 1645 yds. I'm pushing the 230's @ 2901 with 74.9 gr H-1000. But this is with moly, so YMMV.

I believe the 225's are on Hornady's temporary suspended production list. Been trying to find them for a while now. Has anyone tried Lapua's new 220grn Scenars?

I shoot the 225s out of my AI AW at 2805 FPS with 76 gr of Retumbo, full matched brass and have shot them out to 1800 Yards at .5 MOA when the wind is on my side.
I use G7 BC of .342 Hope that helps. I think they are great bullets but the Sierra 220s shoot a little better and there is little need to sort the bullets by weight. I found that the 225s NEED to be sorted where as the Sierra ones are much better. I still sort them but I only found a fluctuation of +-.4 gr out of 1,000 bullets and 98% of them are within +-.2 gr

My first pick would be Bergers 215gr BC.696 at around 2900-3000fps

I just did a quick comparison of the 215, vs the 230 with Shooter. My current 230 load vs the 215 @ the same MV of my 208 load @ 2950, & the 230 had it by over a MOA by 1600 yds.

I couldn't find anymore Hornady 225s or Berger 215s or 230s, so I bought a box of the Lapua 220s and worked up a load with Dan Newberry's help last week (OCW).
Seated in the lands out of a 24" 1:9.5" Schneider I got a really nice flat big node between 73.8 and 75 grs of H1000. So I settled on 74.4.
Going to chrono and test at 300 yds as soon as I can.
What I especially like about the Scenars is I can seat them long into the lands and still run them through my AI mag.

I am loading the 225 with RL25 and getting 2950 and maybe more, good SD, will do accuracy testing in the spring. using 25 for the 208 and have a good 3100 load as well, chrono's very close. again the jury is out until the snow melts

same here, I use a 995 and its mag is set up for 338 L I can seat over 3.60 depending on the bullet

I'm able to run the 215 bergers at 2970 with relative ease with a 30" Broughton. It actually will shoot farther than the 230 OTM Berger at 2885 fps. A little more wind drift I think but it's .2 or .3 mils lower at 1,000 yards than the 230 OTM. I shot last weekend with both and the 230 OTM shoots great at mag length (3.620") , while I have to single feed the 215's. I actually had the 215 at 3,055 fps during load development with 78.9 Retumbo but it was too hot (sticky bolt) but shot 5 and it was just over a 1/4 moa. At that speed it would destroy the 230 OTM ballistically !
