All:

I've owned suppressors for over a decade - centerfire pistol, submachine gun, and rifle. Years ago, I experimented with an AAC Pilot gen 1. I was looking for a can that would not harm the accuracy of my custom tack-driver 10/22. The Pilot adversely affected accuracy of this gun (but this was almost 10 years ago) and I believe this was because of its size, efficiency, and turbulence inside the tiny can.

My goal is noise reduction similar to top suppressors in this class, no loss in accuracy of host firearm, disassembly for cleaning, and machine gun rating - I have an LM7 for my M16.

Size is not all that important to me - I have a Walther P22 but don't really care if the .22 can isn't itty bitty like they all are today.

Now I'm thinking about Form 1'ing a .22 can that will be a little bigger than most current .22 cans - possibly as big as 1.25x6 - but maybe 1.0x7 or somewhere in between. I have a friend who used to be Class 2, and he can make the can while I stand there and watch him after I get the Form 1 back. He has some great designs that can be scaled up or down to suit my needs.

But...is there a commercially-available can that will suit my needs - as quiet as any, no loss in accuracy, disassemble-able for cleaning, and large volume full-auto capable?

TIA

Re: .22lr suppressor ideas and questions

The SWR Spectre is 22lr FA rated. Also 22mag rated in semi. Positive reports from anyone that has owned mulitple 22 cans. From my research seems to be one of the best 22 can out there.
The TBAC 22L also has some great (limited)reviews.

Re: .22lr suppressor ideas and questions

For a tank the SWR Spectre is a great can. If weight is a primary concern the TBAC 22L is a great suppressor for precision work.

I have a Form 1 that I built that's 1x6.25 and very successfully suppresses 22mag and smaller with no effect on the precision level of my 22 rifles. If you want to Form 1 something that's great, otherwise beyond the 2 above a 3rd thing to consider is the 22R suppressor that Wells Custom Gunmakers has. It's closely related to my Form 1 design.

I have put my suppressor design against an Outback II and it's a no brainer what is quieter, however the Outback II isn't a particularly good suppressor IME.

The nice thing about your Form 1 approach is that you can decide you don't like how it worked and destroy the internals (NOT the envelope) and make a new set of internals to try improving it. I like to tinker, this satiates my tinkering...

Re: .22lr suppressor ideas and questions

There are many suppressors that will fit your need...just read some posts here. We seem to visit this question every few days... I will add that this is the first time I have read someone indicate that the Outback is not a good can... For it's size it does a really good job and now that Gemtech offers an upgrade to make this user serviceable I would absolutely recommend..if using 22lr only. Not for full auto though...Spectre is a great can as are the offerings from Dave Saylors at Liberty Suppressors

Re: .22lr suppressor ideas and questions

I thought it was good too until I shot it back to back on a semi auto pistol, a 10/22, Marlin 60, and 2 bolt 22 rifles. Several different ammo types. It was clearly louder than the Spectre, TBAC and my Form 1 on every platform. I was not impressed.

Re: .22lr suppressor ideas and questions

I own three different 22 cal. suppressors, Gemtech Outback, AWC Stalker and just added the best one yet( IMHO) Silencerco. Sparrow . The new Sparrow is F/A rated also 17HMR, 22 WMR and will handle the FN 5.7. This baby is a highly recommendable unit. If it had been out a couple years ago I could have eleminated the Outback and the Stalker as the Sparrow covers all the bases these two units did. Also it is user serviceable!!

Same results - on my CZ 452 it's a tack driver, click,,,,,,thump!
