22lr vs 17hmr vs 22wmr

Re: 22lr vs 17hmr vs 22wmr

I favor the .22LR, counterintuitively; because it has the lower velocity and BC. The overall outcome is that it moves the higher angled portion of the trajectory closer to the shooter, allowing that shooter to simulate LR conditions within an overall smaller venue.

The .17hmr, 22wmr, and to some degree 17hm2, all tend to defeat this purpose with their improved/extended performance.

I second Greg.

It's certainly a high difficulty level scaled down to shorter ranges with the .22lr. The .17s and .22wmr are flatter shooting at the same ranges, and the difficulty level just isn't there. With a .17hmr, you don't need a drop chart for anything under 100 yards really; point and shoot. Takes the fun out of it.

It's also cheaper.
