It depends on what type of bear you are talking about. However, if I was headed up to your next of the woods and had a chance to run into a grizzly, I would be packing a 300+gr hardcast with a wide meplat. If you don't reload, here are a few examples:

i would go with big hard bullets . 300 gr cast would be my choice
