Does anyone have any experience in loading the .240 WB for extreme long range target shooting. I know its a burner and the brass is costly , but outside of that can it get the job done. How would it compare to the 6mm-06 and the 6.5 -06 ? Thanks in advance.

The 240 is more or less the ballistic equivalent of a 25-06. Both shoot 100gr projectiles in the 3300fps range. You would be hard pressed to prove the terminal performance differences between them. There are better choices of projectiles in 243 caliber providing higher BCs. The 25-06 is much easier on the pocketbook with multiple choices for brass and loaded ammo being much easier to find.

The 6mm-06 6/284 and 240 Weatherby are ballistically one and the same. You want to shoot the heavier 107 grain bullets in both guns and with a long barrel accuracy is around 3425 fps.It will shoot flatter than a 6.5-284 to 1,000 yards.

+1 on the 25-06. More sensible choice in every way (financially, practically, etc..). And you lose nothing in performance.

I have a 25-06 in a M700. I thought maybe the .240 would be better for ultra long range shooting because of the better BC bullets that are available. if you think the 25-06 would do just as well that would be nice. i am already well prepared to load for the 25-06.
