.243 8 twist load ideas please?

My new build is going to be a .243 in 8 twist. I’ll be using Lapua brass and and 105 Berger VLDs. Anyone with experience with powder choices and charges I’d love the help. Thanks much!

40 gr H4350 should put you at 2900’/s. Any faster and barrel life will be short.

A4350 is a tad slower burning than H4350, so it might a better fit. In my creedmoor the A4350 takes more powder to get the same velocity, but it shoots every bit as good. I’d definitely give it a try.

Varget is too fast to be optimal for 105s in a .243. I'm sure it can be done, but you'll have a lot of empty case. H4350 - H4831 burn rates are going to provide better case fill and velocity.

Don't sleep on slower powders, like H1000. I'm getting 2950fps out of a 24" barrel, with what is essentially the starting load, shooting a 105gr. Has great case fill, as you can't get enough in the case to reach pressure issues (IME). It's easier on barrel life as well.

I started at 46.0gr and worked up from there to a compressed load. A little more veocity would be nice, but 46gr shoot the best, so I ran with it.

Recoil impulse of H1000 compared to h4350 seems to be a fair amount more pleasant as a bonus.

Been shooting 8 twist 243 for a long time. 4 barrels down and H1000 is the ticket for the 105 class bullets.

I love fast twist 243s. I have used a lot of Retumbo, but settled on H4831 with 108 Eldms. 3100 out of a 26" barrel.

Changed my mind going with a 7.5 twist. Shouldn’t change the conversation much.

Do you have an 8 twist?

Yeah, it's an 8 twist. I used a similar load in a factory 9.125 in the past, as well. Your 7.5 won't change anything.

The 7.5 will help if I decide ever to go up to 115’s but barely. The the Berger bullet stabilization program shows that the 7.5 will help me a little bit.
