Is this an existing rifle and you want to shorten the barrel?
If so, and it is a good shooter, I'd go 20" and when I shot out the throat, I'd have it setback 1 1/2" and rechambered.
If you are buying a new rifle, I'd just go with the Savage Hunter Max in .243 with a 20" fluted barrel. The Max has the accustock, a much better stock than the standard tupperware stock on the regular hunter series.

I'd run it at 22". Set backs can take it to 18" if desired and you have room for re-crowning if needed.
