I need advice for a rebarrelling project. Things to consider are that I dislike long barrels and I dislike muzzle brakes.
The rifle is a LONG action, currently chambered in 308. I want to chamber it in 6mm, thinking of 243 but open to suggestions. The objectives are getting a flatter trajectory, better impact spotting without a brake, less drift would be good to. Feeding reliability is mandatory. This rifle feeds 308 really well, that's why I think 243 would be a good choice.
Considering a 20 inch barrel, I'm a bit puzzled about what would be a good combination of components. Trajectory and wind need to be inside 308 at 600 yards. I would like it to be usable on steel at 1K, but mid range target and up to 400 yards coyote hunting will be the uses for this rifle.
Should I throat it for 105-110 bullets or lighter? What should be the best powder burn rate? I have no experience witn 243.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge !
